Extent
There has been plenty of discussion on the BnS Reddit regarding the high-ping issues that many players have been experiencing. Babbletr0n mentioned that he wanted detailed information regarding the problem, however I have not seen any topics to answer the request. I and everyone I have walked through the testing process have turned up the same results: Latency to the game servers and game servers alone is extremely inconsistent and spikes very high, making combat clunky and combos unpredictable. The problem is persistent across multiple geographical locations, machines, and ISPs in both NA and EU. It has nothing to do with any third-party software or network configurations. Babbletr0n mentioned that "Not everyone is having this issue", however I do not believe this is the case. Considering the large variety of identical reports, it is much more likely that not everyone notices the issue, or knows what the game should feel like in a normal, consistent ping environment. The fact that those that notice the issue have no latency issues with any other BnS-related IP, or other NCSoft Dallas-based IPs indicates that the problem is not related to ISP infrastructure. To find and report your results, you do not need any additional software, and I would encourage anyone to avoid unofficial programs posted by users. Simply follow the following procedure: -Open Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+Esc) -Go to the Performance Tab and click Resource Monitor -Go to Network Tab of Resource Monitor and check the box next to Client.exe -Look at Latency column results for Remote Port 10100 in the TCP Connections drop down This is your actual ping to the game server that is responsible for combat responsiveness. The figures appear to be accurate, if not slightly delayed and are consistent with actual in-game skill response time. If you want to test your normal latency and check for bad network hops, you can do the following: [Option 1] Open command prompt and enter tracert 64.25.39.1 [Option 2] Download a program like PingPlotter. Enter 64.25.39.1 for the target. This will give you more detailed results and is better at detecting lag spikes and packet loss. (If the mods don't want links to diagnostic software I will gladly remove it. This is recommended by other games like World of Tanks, however.) I am located in the Chicago Suburbs and typically get a ping of 30-40ms to Dallas. My latency to all other BnS IPs is consistent with this, showing 30-40ms relatively stable. My latency to 10100, however, ranges anywhere from 30-250 or in extreme cases over 300ms of latency in the span of a few seconds. If you are having noticeable issues with latency, check your ping following the same method and post the results here. Even if you do not notice the issue, I highly recommend monitoring your latency to the IP associated with port 10100 over a couple of minutes and posting as well. This is a very significant issue for competitive PvP and absolutely needs to be addressed. Related Reddit threads with much more information can be found here: NCWest, why are the servers still lagging? For such a ping-reliant game, this is unacceptable. Has NCWest gotten any idea what is going on with the latency? Attention NCSOFT, "Arena server lag" is affecting NA too Babbletr0n - "We are aware of the "Eu Arena Lag Situation, please provide information" High ping in arena? (EU) Please fix the arena server lag NCSoft (both NA/EU) High latency in NA, anyone else experiencing this? **This appears to be universally affecting users in multiple different countries. This issue is critical to competitive gameplay.**
Smo
Also getting pretty much nonstop ping spikes from 10100. my regular 60-70 keeps jumping up to 110-150, sometimes higher. The ping seems to be spiked at least 1/4 of the time that I look at it. Been wondering what's been up the last few days. (from canada, using shaw ISP) I checked the ping both with and without using a VPN, and while the VPN of course did do its job of lowering ping, it still experienced the same issue with the consistent lag spikes. HazeHikari
Just randomly like 10 minutes ago i started spiking for the first time. I used to average like 30 or so but now im at 130 -
fatalystic
Already closed my client, but I pinged 64.25.37.238 (supposedly Mushin? Found it in an older thread on this forum) using cmd and got a 100% packet loss.
Evi
Same issue here and with everyone else I've talked about this. I have done everything I can to make sure it is not me. Normally pingtesting Frankfurt gives me 40-50ms. Consistent with other games that have servers residing in there. BnS gives me 70-200ms in prime time, it happens in OW frequently but cross-server dungeons are affected all the time same as arena. Also the reason I believe everyone has this issue but not everyone notices it: Other classes can perform relatively normal while others suffer considerably. This is a very significant issue for competitive PvP and absolutely needs to be addressed. I'm starting to sound like a broken record saying this and i'm starting to feel a bit embarrassed. But did *you* come up with those procedures or was it the B&S guy that said it? cause either way i think you or they are going about it all wrong. Posting screenshots from "howfastismyinternet.com" isnt what you want to do, or even posting a screenshot of the network tab resource manager. I mean you *could* do that...but once you see that your ping is 500 on the resource manager then wtf are you supposed to do? if their technicians are competent they will start asking you specific questions about your setup and the actual path your data takes from your house to their servers. Telling them that your lag is high just lets them know that your lag is high...but they still need to figure out where the data is getting jacked up. Look at how WoW handles a mass lag report issue. When 100 people all report that their lag on a server is really high thats enough to get Blizzards attention. But when the information they ask people to post is 1) dxdiag 2) tracert and 3) pathping. None of that screenshot crap with resources tab because that wont help them troubleshoot jackshit. They need to rule out if the problem is on their end, somewhere in the middle of the data path, or at your end. In B&S's case the problem may very well be with their servers. But not asking for detailed player info (a simple latency screenshot isnt detailed) seems like they are just guessing.

bandsnewbie
Like for example here is the info i would provide Blizzard if my main server starts lagging up to 10k ms. If a bunch of other people are reporting the same issue then they post the same thing. The server that i pinged was Mushin and the IP address i got for them was 64.25.37.238. I'm actually on Yunwa but Mushin was the only IP address i could get in such short notice. Dxdiag info is provided i guess to rule out hardware issues. They normally ask for pathpings and tracert though i cant remember the difference between the two. I just did a tracert cause i'm too lazy to look up pathping info. EDIT: ohh and also the procedures for figuring out this info doesnt require special addons or anything just a CMD command and a start>run command. But if what Extent is saying about how "The game server will not accept that type of ping request to avoid malicious attacks" is true then i think thats kinda stupid if B&S made it that way. Although my tracert is timing out at hop 10, and the last ip recorded on hop 9 is 66.109.9.122. The procedure is universal for determining the latency involved in a piece of software's communication. At this point, we don't need a full route trace to determine that the latency issue is on their end. Players that have reported the issue also have normal latency to all other NCSoft servers in the same location. This, combined with the large variety of locations involved and the sheer volume of complaints is enough to rule out external causes. This is beside the fact that the game servers do not accept the ping command used in a normal trace route operation. I could post a graph over time of my latency to NCSoft's web servers, but every hop shows 0% PL and 30-40ms total. Completely contrary to the Resource Monitor readings and the in-game performance that supports its validity. 3 minutes ago, Kaom said: I don't have latency issues . If you are certain of that, record a video if you pressing a keyboard skill 20 or so times over the course of a minute. That or record your resource monitor latency over a minute. Contrary results are important, but I haven't found any that have been proven yet.

Well the thing is there was also a sheer volume of complaints a year ago with my main WoW server, and none of it was caused by anything on Blizzards end. All the players reporting the issues had TWC and were in the SoCal region. Thats something i forgot to mention about how normally people include their ISP and geographical location along with the dxdiag, tracer and pathping info. Like 100 would all be with TWC but the one person that speaks up and says they dont have issues (the same way Kaom did) would be with Verizon or Earthlink or whatever other ISPs are out there. But anyways that was Blizzard, it may not always be the case with other gaming companies. But after seeing how Carbine handled Wildstars lag issues and seeing how B&S is handling it doesnt exactly give me a good feeling.

If a bunch of other people are reporting the same issue then they post the same thing. The server that i pinged was Mushin and the IP address i got for them was 64.25.37.238. I'm actually on Yunwa but Mushin was the only IP address i could get in such short notice. You're trying to trace an unpingable address. You're not getting any data that way. Dxdiag is also pointless considering it has no information regarding network interfaces. WoW support just goes through the most broad troubleshooting possible to get it out of the way. We're far beyond that when people from all over the country with different machine configurations and ISPs are all reporting identical issues. The important part of the data would be the time the between the very first keypress lighting up on the UI and the beginning of the cooldown spin. Chained melee attacks, for example, would not provide accurate data.

Yah i guess its just that B&S's process, and also Wildstars, make me uneasy. WoW's process was redundant like with them asking for info when it isnt really needed. I guess in a way thats reassuring or comforting for me lol. Versus a different game company not asking for anything at all, or very little. I stopped playing WS a few weeks ago but their fix for dealing with the lag is also another reason that i'm worried here. Anyways gtg, my B&S toons are calling to me :D
Revvit
This is a huge issue when it comes to PvP and dungeons. In open world the ping stays around 60ms, but when joining arena or dungeon the ping shoots up to 200-250 making playing unbearable. When the ping stays at reasonable levels, usually happens after maintenance or server restart, there are huge lag spikes. If I recall correctly they asked for ISP information so might as well put that here. ISP: Elisa, Finland
Houlon
Ping also fluctuates when your idle in open world, Mine ranges from 30~120 just by standing there, It's the same while using skills only it tends to fluctuate a little faster. Having this happen from EU I could always just blame sharing NA servers causes some kind of interference but when it also happens to some NA players it does seem somewhat confusing as to the cause. But as they say not everyone has the issue so they don't actually seem to see it as an issue.

Travesty
Needless to say Im constantly experiencing few seconds lag spikes making it really difficult for me to do dailies, let alone PvP in arena which I dont even try to do now. I play several other games and never experience that kind of issues, my ping is always below 100. Cardinal Gates EU
colector
Been having quite some trouble with irregular latency as well. Ping may vary from 30 to sometimes over 300 for no apparent reason. Can happen at any given time (peak hours or not) and doesn't seem to have any pattern related to that. Whenever that happens i would check my connection and do a trace to see if the data path has changed, but nothing like that happens. Trace is always same number of hops and also same nodes involved. What i noticed is that whenever i start lagging the latency spikes up at 2-3 nodes prior to endpoint and those nodes according to trace and Telia's lookup tool are the ones near/at Frankfurt. But the spike is always at the last few hops. I am open to any suggestions on how to get further details as i am rather curious to discover the reason for this annoying occurrence. This has to be the first time i have ever had latency issues with EU servers. edit: forgot to mention. Deathshade
Yup having the same issues from Lithuania... Ping in open world spiking from 50 to 150, sometimes to 250. Ping in Arena server(s) is constantly 250+ which makes playing assassin incredibly frustrating... 250 looks like the point where Air combo starts failing. Not even thinking about inserting air grenade in between. Usual ping with Germany or even France is 50-60 ms.
