new player pvp questions

Hi possible new Blade and Soul player here with some questions.

With pvp mentioned in this thread the question goes for all forms of pvp, both arena and open).

Atm I am playing Guild wars 2. What I like in there is that I can more or less make a character and instantly enter the pvp zone,
without the need to lvl or farm gear (as everyone has access to all their spells in pvp and gear is only cosmetic).

How is Blade and Soul regarding that?
As I understand, to do pvp at max lvl you need to have lvled to max lvl (45 atm?) in pve.
Correct?
Roughly how many hours will this take on average?
I am not a fan of pick up quest, kill 20 rats, hand in quest etc.
So this info is quite important to me.

Also I have a quiete a variety of taste, so I would probably want to have more than 1 character at max lvl.

I have always loved fighting games ever since I was young. Starting on the Super nintento. Later on xbox with Dead or alive.
So when I heard about this MMORPG Blade and Soul it sounds cool as I understood its a bit of MMORPG meets fighting game.
It feels like that?

I heard that currently the max lvl cap is 45 but that the game is actually meant to be balanced around lvl 50.
So currently the balance is a bit off, due to classes missing out certain spells?

When will we be able to move to lvl 50?

How is the pvp balance atm?

Also I downloaded the game and trying to launch it but the launcher gives all sorts of errors and problems?
Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks in advance.

When you enter the arena, your stats will be equal to all others of the same class. No equipment / level differences.

However, you will not gain any skills or skill points. That means those at lv45 have a huge advantage over those below lv45.

Reaching lv45? It goes pretty quickly and takes me like 4 or 5 days. I hear people say 20 hours.

It does not, not even a bit. It's not a fighting game, it's an MMORPG with a combat system that is a hybrid of targeting (WoW) and targetless (TERA). PvP is mostly about knowing your enemy, evading and stunlocking.

Basically, Summoners and Blade Dancers dominate coz they're very hard to fight against. Other than that, every class has their own quirk that makes them broken / overpowered, so you gotta learn to deal with those. The balance is screwed and people are crying rivers about botting / cheating (which never was a problem for me, maybe I'm lucky or something).

If you want help, how about telling us those errors?

I'm pretty new myself, but I read forums and am pretty good at keeping an open mind. Think I'll take my own shot at answering questions so you got another opinion to work with.

  1. How soon can I start pvping? Like Vexe said all stats are equalized, but you must level to get skills and skill points. Also, there are several skills with different requirements to obtain called Hongmoon Skills, but at the moment our version of the game only has a few of them.
  2. How many hours does it take to hit cap? Depends on how much time you have to play, but it goes by fairly quickly, faster than GW2 for sure if you don't count crafting your way to cap. The 20 hour thing from what I understand involves using cash shop items and grinding. There's a guide somewhere on it in here. If you choose to quest normally it is a bit "kill X rats," but it usually doesn't go too overboard and there's plenty of story and dungeons to spice things up.
  3. Does Blade and Soul feel like a fighting game? Really depends on what you want in a fighting game. Arena's a one on one test to see who can best use the game's mechanics with a list of fighters using slightly personalized skill sets. It involves loads of practice, quick thinking, mind games, the whole list. Yes, it's still an MMO with a targeting system, but despite people talking about imbalances (as they do in all competitive game forums), the outcome of matches is largely decided by skill. Last game I was in has an endgame equivalent of who could bury the opponent under the largest cash pile. None of that here.
  4. Balance??? There are some balance issues for the reasons you've heard. The biggest casualty is Blade Master as they are lacking their major strong points they're currently balanced for. Certain classes like summoner and blade dancer are often complained about in forums as they are easier to master, but the imbalance somewhat diminishes towards higher level of play where people know what they are doing. Think of it this way. The summoner is a lot like the bazooka in certain shooter games. Easy for new players, but usually abandoned by people with more experience. The imbalance still exists simply because these classes have what they need to succeed with our current content, but it's not nearly as bad as when just starting out.

Are there any other kind of quests than kill, collect, escort, or chat with other npc? Like what do you want a quest to be?

@Vexe

@Kure

Thanks for the answers.

Regarding lvl 50. Are we gonna get lvl 50 as well in EU and NA?

Currently the cap is lvl 45 which seems odd to me, as classes are actually balanced for lvl 50 right?
So at lvl 45 they dont have all their abilities yet.

In open pvp, gear is not needed either?

@Vexe

Among the errors is the E01008 error when launching the game.

After trying several times I get the Blade and soul login.

Its set on the wrong region (NA), so I set it to EU.

It downloads updates/repairs/installs and it wants to go to gameguard.co.kr but it cant.

It also says the client encountered an error. Shutting down the game client (4049).

Yeah, in a few months. They wanted to catch up by June, or something like that?

Afaik NCsoft implemented a class balance patch that was designed for lv50. February's patch actually had Warlock nerfs and it added the Chi Master / Soul Fighter class. Of course, in US/EU it didn't add any of the two classes.

The patch order is pretty weird here.

Open world PvP is trash, so don't worry about it too much. Equipment does matter there, though.

Do something about it stopping gameguard. A firewall / antivirus might be interfering?

The game is what you make it out to be.

To me, this MMO closely resembles a fighting game, more so than any other MMO I've ever seen. I would say it's a hybrid of Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, and Hello Kitty Online, with some more traditional MMO things thrown in the mix.

I was hooked on League for the past 4 years, and it had to take something special to tear me away from it. Blade and Soul is my main game for the time being, because it gives me the satisfaction of an online arcade fighter with an MMO twist.

PvE content is very easy until you hit lvl 45, or at least 40, which might be meant to help people new to the genre or to make leveling less grindy. But for some people this means the leveling experience becomes more boring, so it's a tradeoff. Usually you can challenge yourself a bit on the way by soloing 6man dungeons and similar tricks. (-_^)

As for the PvP feeling, yes it feels like a fighting game, my comparison being Tekken 4, Mortal combat and Street Fighter 2 (lol) played in my childhood. The nice thing is that you can do it in a virtual world full of other fighters. It's just so much nicer if you can meet a famous arena celebrity "in person" or use your fine toned PvP reaction time to take on PvE challenges (which do exist, but as mentioned, more near the current level cap than on the way there).

Yes it's annoying that you do not get lvl 45 skills on a mouse click if you are only into arena, but the gear balance was the much bigger problem in my opinion. I needed only relatively little time to get to competitive skills for arena, but I am still not near enough to good gear to compete in open world PvP, so I much appreciate the gear balancing.

The "weird" balance patching is not weird, because we are not a little sandbox but we are aming for the world championships! If we want to compete there, it's no use to have different skills compared to the Asian regions. The current PvP season was officially announced to be just for warm up, it is not balanced, it cannot be balanced, but it should get us going until the population is ready for the full Asia content. Don't worry, balance will only get better.

Thanks everyone for the answers.

I am still figuring out how to quote properly :P in this forum.

Really getting warmed up for the game.

However I still cant enter the game :(.

Regarding the errors.

I have tryed disabling all firewalls.

Still gameguard problem.

Also tryed all things in this link. Still not working.

http://www.gameguard.co.kr/gameguard/faq/eng/FAQ_3xx.htm

Googled to find solutions. Like deleting bin folder. Didnt work either.

Still havent found something that solves the gameguard issue.

I am kinda out of ideas how to fix this.

What I dont really like is a thing called backtracking. Having to pick a quest up at a quest giver, moving to x area to kill 20 rats for example and having to walk back to said quest giver to turn in the quest.

Most mmorpg by my knowledge have this system (which i am not a big fan of), but

I have also experienced different type of questing in gw2. Where you dont have to pick up a quest, it just becomes active if you are in the area, nor do you have to bring it back to the quest giver. It is just completed once you complete it. Also there is no such thing as kill 20 rats there for example. Usually you can do a number of activities for a quest (also killing) and it all count towards completing that quest till your quest complete bar has reached 100%. So you have some more influence on which things you do to get the bar up to 100%.

Low killing and high other activities to reach 100% for example or some other mix to get that 100%.

Nor do you have to fight with other players over getting  kill on a spawn or to pick up stuff as everyone in the area can contribute to completion.

I found that kinda refreshing. It still not makes me love pve though, but its more enjoayble. It also has quite some story quests which are nice too.

So I was asking what types of questing were in this game, to know what to expect.

If its backtracking I dont mind that much (and it can also be nice to explore the world of a new game).

I would mainly play this game for pvp anyway.

Yesterday I have gone from from windows 8.something to windows 10.
I launched the game as windows 7 today after the recent maintainance and the game launched.
Not sure if it has to do with changing to windows 10 and launching it as windows 7
or with the maintainance.

It didnt launch in one try though but it launched.

Writing this in the thread to let know that I managed to launch the game now.
