NC, Why don't you apply mute sentinels to the game?

Well, not trying to complain or be mean, but you guys either don't deal with the amount of sellers or you just don't have enough manpower to do it. Put mute sentinels into the game?

 

Mute sentinel : Mute sentinels are people, players that don't get paid ( Or something very minor and simple in game item, 10 healing pots or something ) that mute bots as they appear. Priston tale ( First mmo in history or something ) had this issue, once they implied sentinels, chat was so nice and clean, i was one of the sentinels they chose, and it was something along the lines of " /mute 1 100000 " , and that would clean the horrendous chat. the /mute or whatever command it is for bns would have to be granted to the player, via ip address/account ( I remember having a dynamic ip so that was an issue ) , so a leak in the command will do nothing. You can have a strict criteria : Level 45, NCSoft veteran ( other ncsoft games ) , premium members, leader of a clan or whatever you guys see fit, just giving an example here. And also these sentinels will be aware that abusing the command even once will lead to severe consequences such as an account ban, that way no one will mute someone he doesn't like or annoying.

 

You have to fix this, there's no faction chat in Dochun, just **** chat...

Sounds like something they could just write a program for instead of having to "hire" on people.

While we definitely appreciate player ingenuity especially in the face of such frustration as dealing with constant gold spammers and horrible things said in chat, this is not quite as easy as simply appointing players to guard chat channels. This involves a much larger internal discussion with our legal teams, executives, programming teams, and others because allowing players to do this could have some pretty big implications and we'd need to carefully think about this. 

 

We are looking into many options right now to curb the gold seller spam and other issues and as soon as we've made a decision we'll let you guys know.

so you want to give power to random community members, and have ncsoft then monitor THEM so they dont abuse that power, rather than monitor the bots..

You're getting the wrong idea, have 5-10 people per server, have them be in contact with gm's/cm's/anyone else from ncsoft.

 

It's not that hard to do something like this.

 

Hell ask community members to do it for free and they would.

No one wants this spam.

its also not hard to hire official GM's and tell them to do their job

There could be a certain criteria that needs to be met for someone to be muted or whatever. Such as, posting the same thing twice/three times in a row, or posting too quickly, say in the period of 10 seconds, with the same post. Heck, even simply writing out a url could do it. There could be certain mute-able words as well, such as any vulgar language, that would allow the person using said word to be muted by another. That way, regular players wouldn't troll one another by just muting them for no reason. 

 

As for who could do the muting, I like the idea of level 45 characters being a requirement. The person would have shown dedication to the game and likely would be less troll-y (hopefully). Other requirements could be permission granted to them by a gm, or having completed certain in game activities. Ran 100 dungeons, owned 500 gold, completed the storyline, bought something with nc, was suggested to a gm by another person, or even voted by the community. Just a few ideas.

my 2 cents.

 

No "per character" or "per account" solution, whether it be muting or bans, NCside or player side, will have any significant effect in a f2p game where it's easy to create new characters/accounts.

 

If they take any steps on a per character/account basis, then they have to make it significantly more human intensive to create an account.

 

 

IMO the real solution is engineering.  Adding functionality to prevent people from being ABLE to spam.

 

edit:

regex search on non-reply messages to (silently) auto-mute any with something that looks like a URL.

If the same (within a certain %) message gets sent by the same person, the additional message is (silently) muted.

 

Stuff like that.
