KFM changes since launch?

I just returned a couple weeks ago, didn't know there was a new class so got a bonus there, and come to find out that the game has changed since I played years ago. I loved the KFM and played him quite well back in 2016 but now he has two specs and it looks like neither spec has all the skills he use to have plus some have been removed.

It appears that Dragon Fist doesn't have triple kick, cyclone kick or iron shoulder which the original spec had and it has a bunch of new skills. Flying Kick has those skills but it's missing hellfire kick. And both don't have stomp, grapple, swift strike or shin kick.

I was wondering which spec is closest to original? And why did they remove stomp, grapple, swift strike and shin kick? It appears that flying kick is closest to the original from what I can tell with only hellfire kick missing plus the four removed. The removed skills could be there and I didn't notice but I didn't see them and am wondering why they were removed.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Back in April I think it was! we got a patch known to most as the Awakening patch, it basically revamped all the classes, awakening done away with the element system aka Wind and Fire for KFM and instead added 2 specializations per class with a 3rd spec slowly being released for all classes overtime (only KFM and BM have 3rd specs in our region currently.)

Flying kick spec is basically the closest thing you can get to Wind element and Dragon Fist being Fire element, there's no way to play the classes how they were pre awakening.

The game has had a ton of full skill reworks since the launch build, mostly improvements however i do lament some of the skills we've lost in the process.

At some point after the game released all the hongmoon skills, they did away with the original skill system which allowed the most extensive individual skill by skill customisation and replaced it with two elemental specialisations for each class. Kfm in this case was split into wind and fire and each spec had their own rotations and mechanics to keep track of.

Skills in general were segregated between the two specs and neither really had access to the full skill package that you could have before.

The game progressed, new content was released and the devs kept changing up class mechanics and skills throughout the games life to better suit the new type of encounters and raids they kept building.

As a fun example, since you mentioned it, at one point grapple skills could be specialised to "restrain" the target allowing other players to unleash otherwise unavailable very powerful skills against them. The meta was pretty much, if possible,  cc a boss > restrain > beat down by the rest of the grp, fun times. The devs toyed around with the idea a bit but ultimately decided against keeping it.

Anywho, skills come and go, sometimes they get changed a bit for flavor, for example the the dragon fist kfm spec has firestorm kick instead of triple kick just as a fire themed version of the original, a remnant of the old dual element skill system.

That said, our current skill patch isn't fully fleshed out yet, each class is getting a 3rd new specializatio, as a kfm you can unlock yours already, the 'iron claw' spec by completing a high level quest.

You currently have a choice of 3 ways to spec 5 different talents for each spec. Each of these talents you pick have a very broad scope in the changes they can bring to your playstyle often affecting multiple skill interactions effects and even changing what skills you have available.

tldr:

a lot's changed and a lot more's going to change

change your spec and talents around to see what skills you actually have available because skills're often hidden behind different talents

 Thank you two for responding.

I didn't know KFM had 3 specs so I guess after I level my Lock I will delve into KFM and try to unlock Iron Claw. I figured out that I should go with Flying Kick since it is the closest thing to what I use to play and then go from there. Too bad grapple is gone because I remember doing exactly like Eimi said groups use to do and that is I would restrain the enemy and milk it while the group would just pound them. I miss that. Just hope it's as fun as it use to be.

Thanks again to you two, much appreciated.

Here is a tip:

If you going to play around with the 3rd spec, there is somewhere in the skill tree a combo list that shows you all the different combinations of skills and what they do. It might help you :)
