Mineral nodes crumbling right before my eyes and disappearing, but no one is at the node...??? Hack?? Bots??

Ok is this some sort of bot hack thing?  I have approached several nodes (quartz) this morning and as I approach they are there and then suddenly they do this crumbling animation with a dust cloud and disappear right as I approach it.

Not a hack or bot, this is happening where the ore is already collected.

I think that means it wasn't really there. That's happened when someone cc'd at a node that my friend was taking, so we knew she'd taken the other one. He cc'd to check and it crumbled right as he got there, even though she'd probably gotten it a minute before by the time he finished and did so. I think that's just the way of loading that it's been taken when for whatever reason it "thought" it was there.
