Can someone explain prestige points?

I really didn't do any pvp throughout out the whole game and now I'm not gaining any prestige points. Any idea?

You don't get them from mobs after the level difference is too high, might be that. The prestige point icon on their status bar also turns gray-ish to indicate that. Try higher-level pvp areas, like near Blackram Supply Chain or Mistwood.

 

EDIT: Just figured you might've thought that you're going to get prestige points from defeating opposing faction members. You get them from mobs in PVP areas and players carrying them; for defeating faction members you get faction contribution points.

I am level 45 killing the mistry woods cerelian npc characters and not receiving any prestige points. I figured the level difference was an issue but mistry woods is in a level range is it not?

You get prestige points but for killing bosses which spawns after killing normal NPC, 1 PP per boss.

Basically farm npc for points, steal points from enemy players. Exchange for rank.
