Alts and Clans

Is there an accepted etiquette in MMOs about joining multiple clans/guilds with different active characters? Is it frowned upon? Obviously you wouldn't be able to devote as much time to multiple clans which might be viewed as a disservice to both of them.

 

I have a great, but small, clan for my main but am toying with trying to join a larger clan on an alt.

Unless the guild specifically states that all alts must be in the guild, why not? My co-mains are on different factions, hence in different guilds. The friending in the game is on account, so the guild lead can always reach you on your alt if they need you for a run, and, obviously, avoiding scheduling conflict on the scheduled runs is doable too.
