Question about items (necklace/earing)

I'm a bit confused about the usage of gear in the game. I get that the Hongmoon weapon I got will be my weapon through the game? But I've also gotten a ring/earing/necklace. Should I upgrade theese as I go along or should I just not bother doing that as I lvl and wait for better gear at higher levels?

Hongmoon earring/necklace/ring work the same way as the weapon.
