Summoner Bug?

I am doing "the way of the Summoner part 1" i.e. the first trial with the trainer. As I arrive I am supposed to knock down the trainer with Anklebiter and then follow it up with the hammer hit combo.

 

Anyway, I have done that about 30 times and she keeps saying 'you have to knock me down" etc etc and nothing happens.

So I am stuck, cannot progress because his quest is not working, obviously broken.................................

Maybe it is that my cat is interfering because she keeps attacking and fighting but I cannot see any function to disable the cat or dismiss it.

Your cat is the one that has to knockdown and use hammer. Press tab to make it attack then try V > C. I can't remember what level you need to be to beckon, but E will eventually command your cat to come back to you.

1. Aim to target

2. Press TAB to send cat

3. Once cat is in melee range of target, press V (ankle biter). Target should fall down.

4. Once target falls down, quickly press C (hammer)
