quick question: lag or mechanic?

a kfm is at distance, my bm spam q/e, he lunge toward me with the aoe jump thing, I managed to q and dodge to his back, I got hit right the moment I reach his back.

 

I thought q/e is I-frame? Or the AoE actually come out later because the move has 2 phases (1st lunge then AoE)?

 

Or simply lag magic?
