Can't see my friend

I'm having issues with searching for friends as well as seeing my friend. My friend just started the game and I thought I'd help him out. I tried to use the friend finder in the F4 menu but I couldnt search him nor could I find existing members of the game that are standing right in front of me. Seems like the the friend menu is bugged. My friend and I are on the same server, same channel, but we don't see each other. I can see other players and he can see other players, but we just dont see each other, so i'm not sure where that problem lies. I hope someone knows the answer to these problems!
