[Newbie question] Alternative factions

So the first thought when i chose between Cerulean and Crimson is that they are the only two factions battling in the real PvP realm.

 

However even if it appears like only those two matters i obtained and used Stratus uniform, it makes you hostile against people with Tyrian Cult uniforms. Feels like an alternative. I'd like to be able to do something more with that. But it seems like you cant earn any contributionpoints or do anything with it so far. I'd really like to see those being alternative PvP factions and i was wondering. What can you do with other factions than Cerulean and Crimson? Like Tyrian Cult and Stratus Empire. 

Will anything come to expand those areas? Are they just completely pointless?
