Went into an stage 2 download area and now I cant leave without downloading the update

I got to level 20 and went into one of my chapter quests, but the quest required me to have downloaded stage 2. I want to get out and just go do some side quests on the game but it keeps showing me the message whenever I try to play the game and tells me to update or go back to character select. Any solutions other than downloading the update? Restarting the game doesn't work.
