More height when windwalking?

Hello.  I've noticed a lot of players get extra height when they windwalk, either from the beginning or they somehow gain more height during the glade.  How is that done?  I do W and shift, then while holding the shift-W I hit the space bar and I glide but it's all downhill.  I can't seem to start with the height that some players are able to achieve at the start of the glide (the initial jump), nor can I add height during the glide like I've seen some do.  What am I missing?  I sure hope somebody can help.  This is driving me crazy!  Thank you.

Never mind.  I think I have this figured out.  I started a new class, new race, and find I can jump much higher.  I believe it's the race, which hardly seems fair that one race can successfully pull off a jump/windwalk quest and another can't jump high enough to do it.
