A Question about Gems

I'm really confused about gems. More specifically:

- What's the BEST combination on a weapon;

- What's the difference between Diamond/Citrine/Ruby/Sapphire/etc;

- What's the difference between Square/Triangular/Hexagonal;

- What's the rarity on gems (Like, the normal ones, Brilliant ones and Sparkling?

- Is it worth adding gems on low level or..?

 

A lot of questions I know. And I'm sorry for my ignorance x:
