transmute from 5 sided to 6 sided = 3 x 5 sided + 4 gem powders + 5 golds = nonsense

buying 6 sided directly with 4 gem powders = use it and sell it for 4 gem powders later = 0 loss.

 

transmute from 6 sided to 7 sided  = also nonsense because of the same reason as 5 to 6 sided transmute

buying 7 sided with cryptos = seems a better way

Well, early on, if you don't have anything better than square gems, use the Solar Energies to buy Pentagonal (5 sided) gems to fill your slots, (though the square obsidian is not a bad option if you don't have an obsidian at all). Once you have a full set, start saving up the Solar Energies, either for more pentagonals or go straight into hexagonals (6 sided). Either way, it is going to cost the same number of Solar Energy (that or buy the hongmoon gem powder from market for roughly 20g a pop). Once you begin upgrading your gems from Pentagonal to Hexagonal, wait until you have about... 15 powders, then break down all of the pentagonals you had to get a full 20 and spend it all to upgrade to the proper number of hexagonal gems.

 

After that, the only way you can upgrade higher is to transmute or hope the upcoming event will be able to help. To be fair, however... might also wanna look at that Chilling Flame Elixir as a lot of classes need the HM skill attatched to it (especially Soul Fighter)

cryptos from i think i was told the china server have a 20% drop rate, you need what is it, 60 or 80 to get 1 octa gem, the boxes are going to cost atleast 139n coin each like the thanksgiving boxes, at a 20% drop rate(which is far better then the 5-10% of maple leafs) its still going to cost a lot of money/hmcoin to get enough cryptos to buy one octa gem, imo transmuting to octa would be far better unless you have lots of money to throw at the game.

cyptograms is a P2W event. If you go fro cytograms from RNG boxes, I would suggest just save the money and go all in the next trove. If you are lucky enough, you can get a legendary triangular gem directly.
