Do the amount of Gem Slots transfer to the next tier?

I lucked out and rolled Baleful Sword with 6 Gem Slots, when I evolve it do those 6 slots transfer to the next variant? Do I ever have to worry about this?

Yes, you will keep you gem slots. Originally it would only reset when evolving into legendary with the old weapon system, but since you now start at Legendary you won't have to worry about it anymore. It's also why everyone recommends rebuying legendary weapon chests until you have 6 slots. The only other way of getting more slots is to hope they unlock when you upgrade a stage or to use legendary gem hammers.
