Returning player stuck at level 50.

So I just returned a few days ago after a hiatus, hit level 50 via yellow quests and after that i started getting only hongmoon exp instead of character exp.  Is there something I have to do to start earning character exp so i can level to 55?  I just started Act V and I'm only a few quests in.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Keep going with the story. Eventually you will go back to earning level XP, instead of HM XP.
