Deceitful Practice

So im writing this under the assumption it isn't a popular subject to most players as a majority of the population are free to play. 

 

 

When i say deceitful practice I am referring to NCSOFT/NCWEST putting out a trove event with the main attractions being Gems and not upgrade mats. So Trove just ended a week or so ago and whales such as myself have spent Several Thousand $ on trove for multiple toons. 1 week later they announce they are making Octa gems and this new gem system so everyone has access to the gems, which is fine by me. 

 

 

What isn't right is the fact that they knowingly let Spenders whale out on trove while keeping quiet that a new overhaul for gems coming out JUST 1-2 WEEKS AFTER TROVE during the hive queen update. This absolutely is deceitful, unethical, and a slap in the face for people who willingly spend in this game. 

 

 

I am sure most people would prefer I not even mention this as they do not want any kind of reversion of making gems more accessible (neither do i), but let it be known to all spenders that we should be wary in future spending in this game. I could have easily just waited for this hive queen update and bought radiant energies with gold rather then spending an amount equal to a home mortgage and 3 car payment trying to get lucky with Octa Gems. If anyone wants to argue with  "I got other items in trove as well aside from Octa Gems" please dont bother because everything else that was worth getting I got with MUCH MUCH less then what I had spent. The lure was def the octa gems undoubtedly or the 50 sealed oils (which never showed its head after using Thousands of Trove Keys)

 

 

So instead NCSOFT/NCWEST decided too keep quiet about it and then gouge people that actually financially support this game. 

 

I am posting this because after contacting support they Highly Suggested  I post here regarding this topic BUT I am under the impression that they won't give a S**T and try to sweep it under the rug. I literally expect Nothing More from them.

As the game progresses, it's constantly being made easier for lower players to catch up to higher players. I don't see how this even comes as a surprise.

 

Besides, players who spend thousands on the game are the least likely to quit playing anyway.

The complaint isn't them making it easier for free to play players.

 

Since you don't like to read I'll brief it for you. The complaint is they knowingly had a gem system overhaul coming 1-2 weeks after trove but still let spenders blow a ton of money before mentioning it. That is a Deceitful Practice especially when every aspect of the game and its contents is fully controlled by them.

Because people wouldn't spend if they had said so. Companies don't care about customers, only about money. If it makes them more money, they'll do it, even if it's bad for their customers. Because they know most big spenders won't quit playing, and the few that do already spent enough to make it worth the sacrifice of losing them.

It's common knowledge, and it's why you don't spend thousands on a game like this and expect the company to respect its customer base.

Completely agree with you. I don't mind cost reduction during game progression but making gems so cheap right after a swiping event is a slap on the face to many paying players. I'd think twice before putting considerable amount of money in this game again.

I will simply say it like this.  You chose to put loads of real money into this game.  Ever wonder what it actually gains you in the first place ?  It's o different from the Paid subscription.  If I took all the money I have put into the membership and just bought the dragon pouches, I would have come out cheaper over the time I have played the game.  I am not an outfit collector so the wardrobe serves only a small place in my choice to keep the sub up.   For me, it was the extra bank tab, but, had I only bought the pouches I would have every Inventory and bank slot open and not have spent as much on it.  he same applies to what you do.  What if when we get the new content, levels and story, all you have spent to upgrade your weapon, accessories and gems are no longer worth anything ?  What if, like most other MMOs, the new Xpac makes all you have worthless ?  Where the basic blue weapons would be better than the best upgraded weapon you can get now ?  This is a risk you take every time you open your wallet and click purchase .  I have played MMOs back when the internet was shiny and new .  The odds are high that once the new expansion comes out, all you have paid for, all you have spent, will be worthless at level 51 .   You took a risk by paying for the chance to get everything you wanted from the trove.  I am certain others did as well.  It's not what they are doing that is as bad as that you feel ripped off for gambling on a chance.  I highly suggest you never visit a casino anytime soon with that frame of mind.  You took the same chance I do when I drop 100 usd on a black jack table and say "hit me"  spending any real money on a "F2P game is a gamble, and always has been since the very first one came out.   cut your loses and go on with your life.  Remember, the dealer always win is a draw/push :)

You are a little naive for spent Several Thousand $ on trove and you expect NCS treat you with respect lol

No NCS go treat you like a naive person and get the max $ they can for you.

 

I use naive to avoid ban but I can think in better words to describe you :D

This isn't as simple as stating it is a gamble this is them with holding relevant information to rip people off. It's more like you betting on a sports team and they have key player injuries that they purposely with held till after the game started. That isnt the same as knowing everything has a risk.

I know people like you, see several grand and think it's OMGMYLIFESAVINGS. It isn't. Back to the facts it isn't so much the big or small amount spent cause Almost Everyone who paid any sum of money for trove had hopes of getting an Octa gems and thus were subjected to the same deceit. Sure it hurts less for some but the point is they knew it was coming and felt like gouging paying players instead.

well, I hate to tell you this, that happens all the time as well.  What I am saying, in the simplest terms, is anytime you open your wallet and throw real money at any F2P game, you are gambling.  You are taking a risk.  Allow me to help you see it from my side of the road.  How many F2P games went offline this year ?  Any Idea at all ?  Now, how many people do you think still had real money tied up in those games that took down their servers ?  Did they not gamble that the game would still be up tomorrow  ?  Am I, someone that Pays for a Premium Subscription also not gambling that the game will not go down before my sub is up ?  Oh, and for the record, that Happened to me on PotC a few years back .  So, you took a chance and didn't come out on top this time, how many times have you been way ahead because you took the same chance and it paid off ?   I paid for WoD in advance, including 6 months of time, well over 100 bucks, and hated that Xpac so much I left the game three days after it came out.  Did I get cheated, did anyone deceive me in any way ?  No, I took the chance and lost on both games.  Yes, it hurts, yes it can ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ you off, make you mad and even cause bouts of rage, but it is also the chance you took every other time that paid off well enough you were willing to do it again.  All things online are anything but a guarantee .  I remember when Yahoo was the ONLY search engine to use, now, what do you think of it ?  I remember when DSL was the best one could ever hope for, Now, it's like Dial up was when it came out, don't you agree ?  So, you feel cheated because you spent a lot of money for a chance to get items (gems I believe) from the trove and now you find out that they are changing that area of the game up ?  I am sorry I don't see what you see from the way you feel deceived by the devs.  Yes, they could have said they were changing things, but what if they made the choice to change the gems up with only a few days left of the trove, after you had already spent all that money, would you still feel the way you do now if that were the case ?

So you are saying you were deceived for buying something you know eventually will get to non paying players? Excuse everyone else for wanting to have something that was meant for everyone. I truly believe that what you want is to be extremely overpowered in comparison to everyone else, or maybe you want some pay to win stuff, stuff that you have cause you spent money but no one else can have unlesss they spend a lot of money like you. Is that deceiving acording to you? or getting stuff only paying money is deceiving people that thinks this game is free to play. you are just mad cause people will have the same that you have going through a lot of effort, cause let me remind you octa gems aren't free and they aren't going to everyone for just some money or some little farm it takes 8 days to only get a penta and you need 9 for an octa so let me see 8 days multiplied for 9 gems you also need powders to transmute equals those are not free. Also there weren't any mats on trove? You didn't get them? is that nc's fault? You could spend any money you want but if this game wants to somewhat be free to play it has to offer a real alternative for everyone, not getting gems on some random event or today special that takes too much time and you maybe wont get them.

That is how NC makes their money. They also mentioned that the new rose set will be added in a non rng way in the future after people have already spent hundreds trying to get rose fabrics and the costume LOL. Pretty much just never spend money on rng stuff in BNS and you'll never get screwed over.

THE POINT WAS THEY WERE GOING TO IMPLEMENT THIS NEW SYSTEM AND PURPOSELY WITHHELD INFO SO PEOPLE WOULD SPEND MORE. Since you are so hell bent on me being a spender and i want to be over powered. I would have liked the option to just buy radiant energy and convert to gem rather than spend CASH on trove. Do you get the point now or is that not simple enough. Don't comment based on your assumptions you just sound ignorant.

I do. I go by information they give us, and what is coming from the east.     waiting for bling is speculation. the price is having wimpy gear for a longer time.

as far as history, this has never happened before so I was caught because I believed the information and planned out my gem strategy.

 

But since I do heed my own advice, this little incident..which btw, is still open and not a done deal and something will be changed as an adjustment, will at some point become part of history, which I will not forget.   I am going to monitor the situation to see what the eventual outcome is. THEN I will decide what to do.

 

in times of mega-change, do nothing except level, that's rule for me. this time tho, I waited until after they set up a change, like every patch notes prior pretty much has been, and get ready for the change. Ok, waiting is over, system laid out, get to work setting up my gems.  then they changed it after waiting long enough to make sure no one could do anything about it between the announcement and the maintenance. 

 

I repeat, this has never happened before. but it has now, but it isn't over yet, so I am going to do nothing until it is resolved in a somewhat permanent fashion and we actually can see where we are.

I played for costumes mostly and that's because I'm a fashionista (my clan knows it to be true). 

What can I say? It's a game, money is ... JUST money. You'd normally spend it on other stuff in IRL, so why worry about what other people do with their money and calling them whales? 

I prefer being a shark (cuz I go to the gym and don't gain blubber tissue) pun on words intended.

So let's just shake hands~ Sharks, and f2p Players ... and whales if they want to.
