Extra gem slot with twisted mirror?

Say if you use a twisted mirror to turn your baleful weapon into a seraph one or vice versa, will you for sure get another gem slot or is it still RNG-based?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Twisted Mirror will retain the stage but 'initiate' the gem socket roll.  And you can't re-roll back slots, so you can't go from 5 to 3 slots.

Its still RNG, and pretty low RNG at that, but your current slots wont reset thankfully.
