Can you hide your own pet?

Pets are not a feature that appeals to me. 

I do not want a pet to be following me around as I play. 

 

However, forgoing a pet will now put me at a disadvantage.  around 10k-ish health and 500 or so defense on stage 6+ pets would make a pretty big difference in some areas of the game, especially open world PvP and battlegrounds. If I am forced to use a pet to be competitive, would it be possible for me to use the buff without actually having the pet active and visible?
