Cold Storage - rant

Recommended Posts

First of all, I'm going to replace all the F words in this post with duck. Because there's going to be a lot of them, and I'm sure it's against the rules to use foul language.

The details of the dungeons haven't been fully released, but from what has been, it's made me pretty ducking upset. Kaari lord is an optional boss for this dungeon, and it's (so far) the only boss that drops certain materials for clan designs outside of the cash shop. Now, normally I wouldn't have a problem with this, since I'm able to put quite a good amount of farming into this game compared to most, so using the cash shop to get the rest of the materials needed to finish our design is a secondary option. However, this dungeon is going to only be able to be completed once a ducking day, unless you pay for more tries. Ducking great. On top of that, to even spawn this boss you need THREE different colored orbs, which only drop from the first boss. Are you ducking kidding me? You're telling me that I need to do this ducking dungeon a minimum of 3 times to even spawn this optional boss (that's assuming 3 different colored obrs drop, which is unlikely). "But they are tradeable! You can just buy the ones you don't have!". Okay, sure. Lets pretend like the orbs are going to be reasonably priced (which they won't be). That still means I need to ducking buy 2 a day to try to beat this boss once. If I want to try more, I need to buy ducking tickets from the cash shop, along with more ducking orbs. What the duck? On top of all this ducking crap, I can almost guarantee the drop rates of the items needed for the clan designs will be rare, or only drop in stacks of 1.

So, for the design my small clan is working on, we need 80 dye polishes, 30 air assassin designs, and 5 morning calm bottom recipes. Now let's also assume that each time we beat this ducking boss, we get 1 of something we need (lol like that would ever ducking happen). That means, it would take 115 ducking days to complete this ducking design without buying anything from the cash shop (assuming we buy the oprbs we need to even ducking spawn this ducking duck). CAN YOU SEE WHY I'M A LITTLE UPSET. This is such a blatant cash grab. I understand that its for something that's cosmetic, but this is ducking ridiculous. There are 2 options to get the mats needed in a reasonable amount of time: Buy all the mats (byebye 200$) or recruit the max amount of active capped players our clan can hold (60 atm) and have everyone do it daily. The latter option isn't going to happen, at most we can get 2-3 groups running this ducking dungeon daily and that would still take forever and require spending a lot of money. Why did they put a daily cap of 1 on the dungeon? I'm okay with the orbs (though I still think that's ducking stupid) but having a limit on the times you can complete this ducking dungeon unless spending money in the cash shop is ducking beyond me. As if the grind for upgrading/drops wasn't already bad enough, they pull this? Ducking ridiculous.

Anyway, rant over. RIP my clan design. I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this, but I don't know where else to post it where maybe a GM or something will see this and realize that there's at least one person is who ducking upset by this stupid nonsensical cashgrab. The ONLY thing I think that would remedy this situation (aside from removing the daily limit) would be the drop rates. If the first boss drops all 3 colored orbs every time, great. If the Kaari Lord drops clan design mats in stacks greater than one (and they aren't TOO rare), great. I highly doubt either of those will happen though.

EDIT: Okay so, the content has been out for 2 days and I've done Kaari lord twice. Both times it didn't drop ANY of the materials needed for clan crafting. This leads me to believe that the drop rate is, in fact, low. WHICH IS SUCH BULLSHIT. Good luck to any players who plan to grind this stupid boss for mats. I know I won't be. Keep in mind that the variety of mats its supposed to drop for clan crafting is ridiculous. There's something like 15-20 different designs it drops? On top of the dye polish. Meaning that grinding that boss for clan mats will take you months or over a year depending on how many you need (assuming you don't buy any from cash shop or market board). Currently dye polish isn't TOO expensive on the market, don't know what the designs will be like though.

Welp. This is what happens when you're put at the mercy of the marketplace to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time.

Sigh.

While this sounds very NC'ish, I'd still like to ask for a source on that information before we go getting all up in arms.

Cold Storage is a new Heroic group dungeon that can be completed once per day, unless a Cold Storage Reset is purchased from the Hongmoon Store. It offers consistently sought-after rewards, and most players will want to complete this fairly low-difficulty dungeon every day to assist with their progression.

I'm not too happy about this, but it makes me happy that the clan designs won't be abundant and worthless.

---

P.S.

Also it's apparently how it was in other regions, and the reset is supposedly going to drop from Yeti and be tradable. Source: one of the threads in GD.

We saw something similar with TERA a while back, thing was:

1. The other regions didn't have "Premium" subscriptions, they weren't asked to pay for a subscription for a game and then walled off from its content.

2. The content dropped was not required for progression. (It was more promotional, and usually only accessible from Internet Cafes.)

3. TERA's "Premium" users got a reset token every single day just for being Premium.

I plan to. However, if I only do that I won't get the mats for my clans outfit design for another year (probably even longer).

Well, I guess if they implement that it would be a step in the right direction, depending on how often it drops. But that's just one other thing to buy off the market (or spend X amount of hours farming), the orbs are already going to be a huge pain in the ass. Not to mention upgrading gear. I don't see how this is feasible unless you're filthy rich, and even then it would probably take a long time to get the mats depending on how often they drop and if they drop in stacks or not. We'll just have to wait and see, but I can't see this being anything but damn near impossible for a small clan (without resorting to the cash shop).

Does everything need to be aquired yesterday ?

Back in Everquest in was not a stretch that to get your Epics it would take 1.5 years to complete their quest and when you had them it felt so awesome and they lasted for a long long while.

Kids these days don't understand working to get something. I agree with you, as I played everquest as well. Going for the Mage weapon took me months. The hardest part was getting in the rotation for plane of air just to get 1 item and hope enough drop. And that raid took 2 days of raiding just to get to that 1 item.

Its a shame they don't make games like that anymore tho. I really enjoyed working to get that legendary just because it shows your hard work.

Yeah, indeed, on Bertox going to the plane of air was a weekend expedition and planned on a global calender back then months in advance, it was a hell lot of fun, as a ranger i required drops for both my swords, 1 was fairly easy but the other one required a drop from the Plane of Hate, either your guild wiped on port-up or it took too long to clear back in the day to get to the boss in one sitting or to many people gave up at 4-5 am, had too many rangers, to few drops, not enough DKP, or the next trip was sheduled in 3 months from this one etc etc ...took me 1.5 years to finally hold the essence of hate and finish it.

The moment you finish that thing was truly epic and it served me for a long time after.

While i do not play games anymore till 7 am ^^, gearing up in BnS is quite easy, just takes patience, witch kids these days don't seem to have, one wipe is enough to make them rage-quit, while we did nothing but wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe till we got a handle on the mechanics and killed the Boss with 50-100 coordinated players, for 3-5 drops ^^. Ah good times.

I do miss the days of 80 person raids. people complain now when 20 show up in ssp or harvest. Try a 80 man raid on dialup and we did fine.

this post is ****ing retarded -.-

1 - it isnt essencial items for the game its cosmetics and 80% of the games with cosmetics in the u have to pay them u get 0 cosmetic free except from event ones

2 - It is EASY difficulty so if it was spamable bots would just spam it but guess what? even if they dont spam think on a thousand bots doing it and then placing orbs on market for sale for extra cash

3 - alot of games have CD on dungeons wen they drop usefull items(im talking abt most recent games) because it prevents boting to a certain point

4 - theres already a similliar post to this one while this one focus the contents that drops in there the other focus on claiming p2w/paywall

5 - be4 trying to get anywhere do 2 things :

 - wait on it to realease be4 complaining

 - check for info of other versions as this dungeon can only be done once a day there also except if u purchase a reset

6 - last but most important the game is f2p but even a f2p game needs revenue who do you think that ****ing pays ur spot for f2p game? EXACTLY THOSE WHO BUY NCOIN/PAY PREMIUM

just a side note : try to rent a servers, buy rights and publish your game and make it 100% f2p and see if you can keep it up without any1 paying you a peny

Yeah as a fervent everquest player (playing since 1999 and i'm still on it even if i feel like sony *cricket*ed this, and going f2p even more screwed it), i can understand what you mean... but you seem to forget something :
-Everquest isn't about having dailies again and again.
-Just the quest for your epic weapon 1.0 and 1.5 involve more contents than the whole content of Bugs N Spin.
-As quests and zones have a wide variety you have something to do everywhere and players everywhere, so you could have fun playing with others at ALL level. (maybe i should say that at past, since everquest is dieing and less people are there)

BnS is ONLY about dailies.
Content is VERY poor which make grinding very annoying, and getting things more annoying to make you evolve slower is just nerves wrecking, as the real content doesn't follow.
Now, below 400 ap you really feel alone, and under 500 ap you can't really farm and everything goes slow.

As there is no real discovery like in EQ, as there is only 1 path possible for gear (when you have thousands in eq), as killing mobs is almost useless (when it's the main point in eq) as you won't grind serious exp or get anything useful outside purple dungeons (when in eq you have an unbelievable diversity of useful mobs/zone), ALL people are doing the same things and need the same things and have only ONE goal, they get easily mad when every alternative goals are soooo anoying or need to pay for it...

Of course that's just my opinion, not an absolute truth.

Ignoring all the other stuff you said in your post, you can run it 2x a day. Not just once. Watch the part of the stream where he uses the reset token and you'll see the cooldown for the dungeon is 12hrs.

That contradicts what is says on the news page, but it definitely wouldn't be the first time THAT was wrong...

Yeah true, EQ was all about grouping with other people and having a good time while doing that, people were generally nice because we would need each other for the forseen couple of year, personally i hate quests and back in EQ you could sit in a dungeon all day and farm nameds that dropped good stuff.

There was this social aspect that few people would understand these days for an MMO, if there are 3 words ushered in an instance these days, its allot of talk going on and ussually its it will be "you Suck dude" I played on Ragefire (Progression) and i had allot of fun camping stuff again in Old Sebilis, but Daybreak killed the progression servers for me by brining a couple out too fast and not giving features to one or the other, so you had to move.

But yeah, idd sign up for an EQ experience any day of the week, but none of the market except a few EQ'rs would get it and the game would fail because it was all about group play, having a good time and working towards a common goal, with these instant gratification hardcores & casuals wont understand.

Ooh man you can't imagine how much i deeply feel your words, i'm nostalgic now :'(

At the very beginning of EQ i remember when you needed to wait the boat to move from a continent to another, up to 30 minute, then the travel itself, more than 10 minutes, and people speaking to each other during the way...
People becoming legends because they were coming in Noobies zone and helped noobs, that was impressed, then speak to other of this guy... etc
Or the "corpse run" !!! hahaha i remember that 2 hours corpse run, and die at the very end lol and everybody knew that this was important and difficult, you just had to say "i'm on a corpse run" and everybody would help you, freely...
How i felt the first time i've seen Lord Nagafen, and Lady Vox... And how i felt the day i was able to solo Lady Vox with my Magician :')
The hours kiting with my druid as the mob wont "reset" if they go 3 feet away their initial place... And the hours camping the ice giants :')
Haha in the early days, when oasis was the "top zone", the famous "TRAIN TO ZONE" hahaha
How i searched for long the secret undersea room with the teleporting jars !!!!! and finally i bound myself there lol (there wasn't the books to PoK yet)
My first gigantic raid, to kill rallos zek... at 400 people !!! the feeling when i discovered and did Plane of Time... or Plane of Hate... dude this game made me feel like if i was a lucky archeologist accessing to the most sacred places of the world lol
Where were all the dumbs we have everywhere now ? ONE people doing shit could make the raid wipe, and with 400 people we haden't any problem... now over 5 persons for a dungeon ou already have 4/5 chance to have a brainless rager or hater...
Pffff and the Hell levels... I remember that i stick to level 56 like... 1 month or so, playing everyday, getting less than a blue bubble a day lol People now couldn't even understand why, and endure this... But this system made you actually discover a lot of things and even the hardcore grinder would get bored and so, would try something else, quests, zone discovery, helping others... etc
doooh i'll go on next progression server now !

For those reading this but that didn't know everquest, here is a chart, just of the zones :
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zlvlchart.html
It will give you an idea how the game is HUGE...

I don't know if everquest next will be good or not, but with everquest i feel like with final fantasy 7, can't do something better, just have to keep it as it was, upgrade the graphics and the graphic engine and let it go... I feel like patch since PoK books weren't a good thing to do... it haven't get more players into the game and get things too easy, and lose the social time (when you had to call and wait for a teleport, 10pp for the nice drOOd coming for ya lol ), and the random stuff that drop everywhere that made obsolete by itself most of the content under level 60 u_u'...

Okay i stop lol too nostalgic now, going to play xD
Tarask&Tharaskh&Taraskh in both BnS and everquest ^^

Could be that from that moment it was 12 h until reset. It doesn't show 24 h from every moment. If you do the dungeon 1 h before server reset it will show 1 h as reset time and not 24 h. At least this was the case with everything else in the game.

I actually see as a good thing that a good chunk of games are moving past this horribly outdated mentality of needing to take this long to get shit done. At least for the more 'core'/essential things. It sure would explain why many dislike BnS' crafting/gathering system so much, myself included. It's a thing of past and should stay dead and buried in the past.

You guys could at least try to be nostalgic about some gaming aspect that actually is legitimately good, because that certainly ain't.

Ive seen MMO's that got their shit done in a week, hell ive seen an action mmo combat game that sold the best End Game Gear day 1 in the store, not at all expensive, where are all these MMO's today, are you playing them, is anyone still playing them, no, they all folded.

Will BnS still be here in alive in 18 years ? i doubt it, most MMO's that get their shit done as you say it don't last very long.

Is Everquest still running after 18 years, absolutely, before comming here i came from one of their progression server.
