Announcement

 

Greetings,

 

In order to prevent unintended file formats uploaded to the character profile system, the image uploader feature has been suspended and images with the incorrect formats will be deleted.

 

The character profile image feature will undergo changes to its system, we will be sure to share more details about this new system when they are available.

 

If at all during your adventures in Blade & Soul you discover an inappropriate image within a player’s character profile, please submit a ticket to Customer Support and they will be able to take the look into the issue further.

 

We appreciate your patience while we make these changes,

I understand them not wanting people to just outright upload porn and hentai. They should just make an option to "Report Profile Image" when you look at a person's info. After x reports they should just check if the reported players image is truly inappropriate and just disable the ability for that player to change his/her profile image.

 

At the same time I feel like people are overreacting a bit on the profile images. If you don't like it report or just simply don't look at their profile picture again. The game is Rated M (Blood, Violence, Suggestive Themes, and Use of Alcohol) or did everyone forget that?

If you are referring to the little picture that we can add to our Character Info in game, I am also having some issues.

 

I have taken a number of screen shots and can not change from the generic shot on my first character and can not even seem to have a profile picture for my Alt. Along those lines, why are the pictures shared across multiple characters?

 

It would be nice to be able to select a specific screen shot as an in game profile picture and also add any pic to my alternate's Character Info. Not a crisis but a small thing it would be nice to be able to fix. Thank you.

Hmmm. Lots of comments loaded while I was typing, I guess. So, I can not even change my Profile Picture from one screen shot to another screen shot-all taken in game, saved in game-and others are up-loading pics from outside the game? I must be the youngest Luddite ever. 27 year-old grandma!:D

They're not even checking the bot/spammer reports, its been over 2 weeks now since I reported some and I still get friend requests from them... If they don't bother dealing with characters named GGaddwhateveryourpersonalstalkerbotnameis what makes you think they'll bother checking every single picture it was reported?

Better not be taking away our ability to use .gifs in our profile pictures. I've spent many hours making .gifs of my character doing emotes which is completely legit, non pornographic and central to my profile and my character.

It really feels like a waste of bandwidth to download 40-100mb every time I need to inspect someone's stats.

Up top. Apparently checking profiles with .gifs for pics bothers your bandwidth. If it's changed ti .jpg only then everything will be BORING. I enjoy seeing what everyone's profile pic's are.

I didn't say that at all, it doesn't hinder me the slightest. I am saying "feels like a waste of bandwidth", not my bandwidth.

 

That might be why they are removing it, sorry for your loss...

Removing GIFs makes no sense. I'm legit upset about this even if for the majority of the playerbase its minor, because it's ANOTHER change we didn't need (like mail being locked, like outfits not being salvageable, like wardrobe being rental only, like making changes to skills not added to the changelog with each maintenance).

 

I can deal with bullshit changes every now and then but it adds up, and I'm losing my good will towards NCWest each time. My friends already left the game and I'm still here since my gf didn't leave (YET, since she is tired of GameGuard problems), but man doesn't these little things start to annoy me when I stop and think about them.

 

I trashtalk a lot here while playing/when out of the game, but I like the gameplay, I like the art style, I enjoy the story (even if butchered). I've given money to NCSoft already and I'm willing to give it again, but not so much when they ignore the playerbase like this.

 

Please @Rukkirii clarify this issue, should we trust your word or Rhenna's on the topic?

I was not aware of the limit so I don't know why they would take them out..

 

Since no explanation was given, I was trying to help some feel better about the change as it might have improved server health but if there is a size limit it wouldn't make sense unless it was being bypassed.

I don't know exactly but I tried to make a gif of my character and it went over 5mb, I remade it (with less frames) with about 3mb and it went thru. Most gifs I see are low frame/quality too so I didn't experience anything that made me suspect people were bypassing

This is some bullshit. I absolutely loved the custom images, and the gifs. What the hell are you doing NC? This is what you're worried about? A few inappropriate pics? Ban the users, don't take it away from everyone. While you're at it, maybe spend some time on the bots or hacks...

Go to your Libraries and find the Pictures folder, the place you want to put your image (any .jpg before this update, dunno after) is [...]\Pictures\BnS\CharacterShot

 

Should be around 393x644 but the game resizes anything you pick. Go in game and it will recognize the picture you added to the folder, if its in the right format you can upload it. Theres a file size limit as discussed in this topic.
