Why do we need to install malware to play the game?

Sure. Still not a rootkit, but you can call it that if you want

Edit: Whoops, it technically can be a rootkit. Thought all rootkits were malicious

wikipedia went so far as to call it a rootkit and a keylogger. It'd be nice to know what it was actually doing. If it's just making sure I'm not running botting software, fine. If it's actually keylogging, it'd be nice to know what the heck it is keylogging.

nguard won't solve bots problem. it will only mess up your privacy and your computer security. bots will still be there.

Even if it weren't a rootkit, it's still a piece of software that either disables anti-virus protection, or locks you out of the game until you disable your anti-virus protection.  Which means that it exposes your system to much greater threats than the value of some grindable items in an MMO being reduced.  And on top of that, it does absolutely nothing to stop botting.

So... it's a piece of software that uses system resources and endangers the security of your system without any tangible benefit.  Sure sounds like malware to me...

I was just reading what having Nguard is suppose to do. LOL, Really NCSoft i would ask for a refund if i was you.

Yeah, it is laughable. It doesn't solve neither cheaters nor bots problem and it exposes our computers to harm, in addition of keylogging and rootkitting. That kind of bs should be illegal.

I've played games that used gameguard for years and never had a single issue with BSOD, crashes or interference with security programs on any of the PC's i've had it installed on. Never did understand the complaints about it, i have razer synapse running, use skype etc all the time, no issues at all.  The only software of this type i've had known issues with is punkbuster (refused to connect to the auth server etc) but that was just a seriously bad program.

I haven't had to disable my antivirus software, so I don't know where you get this conspiracy theory. If it makes you do that perhaps a new AV program? I recommend Avast, works great and it's free.

Personally I think many of these so called "anti cheat" programs don't work that well. Take for example many anti cheats used throughout gaming history. In unreal tournament we had many anti cheats and they did not stop cheaters. In call of duty, again many anti cheat programs that did not work and were constantly updated in an endless war against bot programmers who would simply circumvent new updates within a day. The anti cheats worked on people who forgot to update their cheat programs mostly.

In my last mmo people constantly cried/cry about there being no anti cheat software. Because they do not use gameguard or anything similar. So people blatantly speed hack, and all that stuff. They still cry about it to this day as i browse those forums for a good laugh.

If there was no "nguard" or Gameguard or whatever, how many people would cry rivers of tears when cheating did become so rampant and say NCsoft does nothing about botters and cheaters. Seen that argument made many times in my previous mmo.  In my view, i don't know if gameguard works or not. From my past experience, i don't put much faith into it. But it is a necessary evil. At least NCsoft is trying to keep the game cheat free. If you don't want it installed on your system simply uninstall the game and play something else. NCsoft is not going to steal your bank account info or broadcast your porn preferences to their twitter feed.

In these forums are conspiracy theories galore.

lol, look at all this macro user uninstall the game ! afraid gameguard will detect your macro ? lolololol

I don't see a single reason to use macros on this game (specially as a PvEr), and if I for some reason I decided to use, I would just use my keyboard or mouse to macro, which would not be detected by nguardian. Nguardian is a well know piece of junk, that is a rootkit, a keylogger and, other than compromising your privacy and security, does nothing. I would maybe accept installing this piece of malware in the game if it helped getting rid of cheaters and bots, but whoever played a game with gameguardian before knows it is worthless.

That's what I said I'll do. Not all people playing MMOs are a 12yo kid in their mom's basement. I am an attorney and I use my computer to work and play. I have sensible information about my clients in one of my HDDs and I don't want no one keylogging my work, specially not NCsoft, known for their security problems (reason why I only buy their crap using paypal, since I don't trust them to have my CC/bank info). Also, even if I didn't know they had their past security issues, even if I didn't know nguardian is a rootkit and a keyloger (and, as consequence, I see it as malware), I wouldn't trust a company that uses an outdated, useless piece of junk like gameguardian. In the very moment youlog in, you will notice all bots and cheaters are still there. So what is the point of having it installed?

Yet you're acting like one when all versions of this game uses nguard and you came wasting your time crying about it to the forums when it doesn't even bother your system at all.

Just like every other game uses something to protect itself. You might as well uninstall all other mmos too.

I don't have other MMOs installed. Saying it doesn't bother the system means you don't know shit about how it works.

nguard? seriously? time to uninstall the game.

It is not malware, it is rootkit. Sony did same stuff to protect their MUSIC CDs, ubisoft is doing it all the time with DRM.

All those applications are annoying, cause troubles (for eg my mouse scroll wheel acts weird every time NC guard starts.).

You complain about ncguard that it is malicoius, it is not evil, but it does not do its job well, all bots are prof of that.

No rootkit or cheat protection will work ever when its installed on clients pc.

On my pc i have admin rights, and it is not hard to install another rootkit that hides what i want from NCGuard.

Luckily i do not care about PVP, or bots i just like combat system of B&S, when i have enough of it i will move to next game.
