Ive just had the Merry potters drop won it for 10g. im not sure if i should sell it or use it. i need the jar myself but was wondering when u learn it wht do u need to make the jar.

If you haven't been leveling all the key crafting guilds, and currently only have one character max level, then it will take you quite a while to make it from scratch by yourself. Might take weeks of hard labor unless you have deep pockets to buy the ingredients on the market

You need stuff from Earthseers (Banishing Charm) and Acquired taste (Ceremonial Meal), all lvl 3 crafting.

Think of it this way:

 

You got a recipe for 10g

The recipe sells at 35g

The jar sells at 36g

 

Materials required to make a jar (34.1 g):

Base and commission: 7.84s + 0.82s (8.66s)

Soulstone x 10: 3.3g

Moonwater Tear: 0.7g

Banishing Charm: 14.5g

Ceremonial Meal: 15.5g

In more simpler terms: Sell the Technique for 35g, then save up 10g and buy the Jar on the Market for best value.

if you're willing to wait, i've made ~10g a day selling premium refiner (which needs merry potter technique),

 

you could just save to buy the purification jar and have a source of income after

Arguably, one of the worst items to achieve in the game. But since the entire economy is a wreck, it's not surprising. Just another thing (like bidding on loot) that will eventually drive us all away.

i would say, to just make refinres out of that recipe and make profit yourself.
