Why is cleave better than eradicate?

For LMB?  All of the pve guides that I've seen so far recommend Cleave (tier 4-3) over Eradicate (tier 4-4).  I'm level 41 right now, but mobs seem to go down faster with Eradicate and it's an aoe.  Cleave has a heal (small right now, I guess it gets better with gear) but it's single target, which screws me in 2+ mob groups.  What am I not understanding here?

Animation cancel. Cleave is a DPS boost over Eradicate even in the short term, and is vastly more efficient in terms of focus and therefore vastly higher DPS in the long run. The focus efficiency is also huge for high-level PvP play. The only time it's really appropriate to have Eradicate is as a pure PvE dungeon DPS build where you're already pushing Shadow element for higher Typhoon, Execute, and Wrath damage. This will not work for PvP as it is terribly Focus-hungry and highly vulnerable to CC interruption.
