It is likely that as a type of unregulated social casino game using RNG as its pretense that what is really happening is that the developers can then use a dynamic gaming balance system to keep the product in continuous play in their favor, thus making it not a true RNG system.  This type of system is unregulated, even though the majority of folks would likely consider it gambling, the law would only recognize it as a social game with little to no virtual value, even though you paid real money trying to get an item(s).  Whereas a true casino game is regulated by law to have a determined payout and percentage to do so over a course of time.  This type of social casino gaming being utilized by these video game companies in F2P may be currently unregulated, but possibly not for long, just look at Draft Kings and other fantasy sports betting as they are currently being ruled as unlawful gambling establishments by certain states, etc.  If folks truly feel this strongly against such F2P/RNG practices by gaming companies perhaps they should petition their state attorney general for a review on the matter.  Or, just don't financially support this type of behavior.  But, as long as there is a market and people willing to pay for it , these companies will continue to use these shady financial strategies until it becomes regulated by law.

Players like me? You mean someone who likes the game and love to support them with my money so they can keep improving stuff? Someone that isnt crying because they're doing what every single other MMO does? Someone that has spare money and I can do whatever the *cricket* I want with it?

Or you mean someone that dislikes every server being 1-sided factionwise and that the lower faction has no way of obtaining certain end-game gems because we get camped by the other faction?

You guys are all crying for every single thing they put out. Costume is 20$? OMG OMG SO EXPENSIVE... IM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NCSOFT.  Put costume in RNG box? OMGOMG SO STUPID, VERY DISAPPOINTED, I'D BUY IT IF 15-20$ BUT NOT RNG BOX!!.

In the end, forum is pointless for them to take into account. They'll see how many people are buying the boxes and they'll base themselves on that. Altho this box is shit rewards so it may fail, but there will still be lots of ppl trying for the costume.

He's not calling out the fact that you like to support the game and the devs. He's calling you out for being stupid with your money and just being a "whale."

Anyone who spends a large portion of money is considered a Whale, so either way being called a whale you're being called dumb for over support a game dev and spend YOUR money how you see fit. You can't be dumb with money unless someone tricked you into something. Plenty of people know the risks of RNG boxes and they're perfectly content with any odds because they still buy them. There are SOME idiots who buy them thinking they'll rub it in peoples faces and then fall flat on their ass and complain and beg for a refund - those people are dumb with their money.

Try explaining to someone who doesn't play this that you spent hundreds trying to get a pixelated costume in a free game.

I'm sure they won't think you're an idiot.

While I ultimately agree. People get angry with "whales" because it can negatively affect the game. If these RNG boxes prove lucrative, then it only motivates NCSoft to continue with scummy systems. It also shows they are perfectly okay going back on their word (no RNG boxes). So why should we have confidence they won't do something else that borders along P2W? In the end, you're right though. People can do whatever they like with their money. But at the same time, other people can complain about it.

You are not understanding at all what they are implying. I will try to explain it simply. Yes spending lots of money is being a whale. How you spend the money is what is important. If you just spend large amounts of money on a digital outfit that you had a "chance to win" You are basically saying I have tons of money and Like to pay anywhere between 1.99 to a few hundred on a single costume.

If you have difficulty understanding this then I am sorry I can't explain it to you.

Cracked me up, sorry... ;)

I'm not saying I never payed for pixels in a game before, but this particular game/company really doesn't deserved it, as far as I'm concerned.

Then again, it indeed seams to be a limited time offer, and judging from some posts here, this minimum work afford stunt has already made NC a nice sum... so next will be valentines day boxes then, I guess.

Try explain why someone spends millions on a car? A house? Art? It's their money their choice, and a lot of people who already spend hundreds on the game have done so with the MasterPack as well as getting general items for their character like bag expansion. How about this, explain to anyone who doesn't play ANY games how you spend ANY money on pixels? You're just as big an idiot as anyone who spends $100 even if you only spent $5.

Why does it matter how someone else spends THEIR money affect YOU though? They won't take any features already in the game away from you the more people pay for costumes and some key items that will be easily obtainable come the next few months. I've played P2W games and paid into them, hell I've played the CN version of this game and even with people buying a lot of shit from the Cash Shop it never affected me or prevented me from enjoying the game.

Those people bought something at a set price. They weren't lured in with "FREE HOUSE!" only to pay 10mil for the furniture. You were.

Does somebody have a source for the statement about no RNG in cash shop? Everybody is talking about it, but i can't seem to validate that.

It was a comment about how they knew players didn't want it and they would avoid it if they could on one of their live streams. A guess a massively successful launch doesn't count as being able to avoid it.

NO MORE CASH FOR NCSOFT UNTIL THEY AT LEAST FIXED THE FREAKING AUCTION HOUSE

That's the other thing - the game isn't even fully functioning for some people, and they already start nickle and dimming them... really classy.

Way to assume, I haven't bought any of the boxes. This game is just a filler outside Archeage until Black Desert releases. Also that analogue doesn't make sense, and you barely read what I said. I was talking about gaming anything game related not just RNG boxes, a lot of people will question why you (general you) would pay for anything in a pixelated realm when you can get real world items which cost more and can be seen as something just as idiotic.

Either way no one has disproved my point, RNG boxes aren't hurting their gameplay and the fact that there is more Moonwater in the market makes people who don't like PvP happy. It was going to happen anyways once we get the Arena update and can buy them with zen beans. So I don't see the issue with them adding items already in the CS and a chance at a rare outfit. Do you people complain about the lottery? Or any contest NCSoft hosts? It's all chance and it someone wishes to spend money for that chance that's on them.

@Lunaus

When you buy a house, a car or almost anything in this world, you do not pay for a chance to buy that item. I don't pay millions to "maybe" get a house.

The fact that people throw their money away does indeed effect others. If it becomes more lucrative for boxes to exist they may put other costumes that people like in boxes. Then we are faced with the simple choice of do we pay to maybe get said item, or do we just not pay. I have given up on RNG Chests, I spent plenty of money in TERA, I woke up realized I was wasting my money and left. Yes you can spend your money however you want. that however doesn't make the things you spend it on any less of a waste or stupid.

Again, didn't read my whole comment. I was replaying to someone who asked how would you explain to someone you spent $100's on a pixel costume and I retorted with "How can you explain to someone for buying a million dollar house/car/anything?".

Also what you find stupid or wasteful is completely subjective and bias on your personal feelings. People find it wasteful to support charities, people find it wasteful to eat out instead of cooking at home. Doesn't matter, not your money not your problem.

RNG box for real money? No way. For in-game currency maybe.

When they will take out the RND and leave the rest in, the I'll look again at the box. :D

You can't even get them for Hongmoon coins... wouldn't want f2players get an outfit "for free", now, would we? ;)

Well, in case you missed it, this topic is called "New RNG box in shop" so I'd assume you're talking about the boxes and not derailing the topic.

My mistake?

edit: misquoted
