Well, that's the wormhole... if situations like that pop up, people start to question if the game is even worth it in the first place, and - as a publisher - you don't want that to happen, if you know what you are doing.

"If you know what you are doing."

The thing is, they know what they are doing. They made their choice. They did their cost-benefit analysis, and made the choice. They chose to alienate the portion of the playerbase this would alienate, they chose the risk associated with the gain.

That's the thing that irritates me the most on all the choices I have seen with this launch. They are all choices, they all speak to bleeding a really cool game concept for cash, and not caring to nurture it or the community willing to support it. The powers that be, that run the company, have decided to put lipstick on the cow and milk it, that's what every indication points to... and it's disheartening, and colors my investment in the game. Financial and otherwise.

Just adding my own 2 cents here.

I will not continue playing or supporting this game if outfits exclusive to RNG boxes persist.

This is not why I became a master founder.

I payed for a year of premium for an outfit because it was guaranteed

but I will not put any money towards any RNG box no matter how addicted to outfits I am.

The thing is, the outfit is not vital to the game. It looks nice, some people will want it, and if you want it, you have to try your luck. If you still don't get it, you have to accept your fate and wait for it to come out normally, if ever. Otherwise, move on without a hitch. Get a different outfit you like even more.

If there was some vital stuff like next weapon upgrade in that box, that could not be received anywhere else, yeah that sucks. Hongmoon levels in RNG boxes would scatter even myself away. But a costume? Why the *cricket* not.

Simple: Psychology... a costume might not be vital to the game, but it FELLS vital, especially when you slap a price tag on it.

It's kind of a symptom of the time: The strong mobile market influence has transformed most game companies into money hungry fast food paddlers, always on the hunt for the fabled whale, and they use stuff like the implied value and exclusivity of ingame items as their bait.

Pity one good game after the other has to fall victim to that senseless business practice...

True, they aren't milking the cow, though - they slaughter it.

That can't go on forever, at some point, nobody will be willing to invest into ports of Asian games anymore... that's why I say it's unwise.

For some people, it is a bit vital. My main draw to this game is how pretty it looks. I have a LOT of problems with this game as a game itself, that maybe are just not suited to my own tastes, but I want to keep playing it because it LOOKS pretty. My character is pretty. Outfits are pretty. And combat is entertaining enough to keep me going, even if I don't think its the best I've ever seen. But, thats me and I know for ACTUAL purposes, the costumes from the cash shop do not effect actual gameplay. However, those of us do exist to whom cosmetics can make or break a game.

You are talking like you are not a consumer. They buy the box because they don't want the costume and don't want their characters look good haha!

Now I will ask you: do you want the costume? Most people do not have it.

After spending 50 dollars,

My heart says yes, my brain says no. and my wallet is still full of cash.

NCSoft can sell the costume for a higher price, I'm Ok with that.

Now they put the RNG box in like gambling, it's not good.

When you get into casino, the mindset is ok Today I will spend 50 dollars as a consumer or 1 hour and I will leave which comes first. Then enjoy the excitement of gambling.

But this thing is disappointing and could be endless.

Well see, it's actually just a feel. It's not even that good of an outfit: its only bonus is exclusivity to people who got lucky with the RNJesus, and some people who actually like the style. And over half of that will go away if it's on retail.

There are many things that you might not be able to get, in life too. Who has ever said that you should be eligible for every released costume ever? You're paying for a lottery ticket here. You don't then go and complain you didn't win, you knew you were buying a chance to win the jackpot, not the jackpot.

Right now, this costume is as good as unavailable outside of a jackpot cash-in from a lottery. Say that again with me: "not available for purchase at the moment". You cannot dump $N into game and reliably expect to have it.

Maybe NCSoft will add more costumes like that in the future, for example: for winning a PVP tournament. Not everyone can do that. PVE-oriented people would likely never get a sniff of it, but I don't think they'll complain about that here. Though I think they will. This one's for lottery winners.

That can't go on forever, at some point, nobody will be willing to invest into parts of Asian games anymore... that's why I say it's unwise.

I agree. I essentially quit MMOs for the last 2 years, a friend dragged me back into this. I already had previous experience with NCSoft over Aion and GW/GW2 (admittedly by way of ArenaNET)... but I likely wouldn't pursue any affiliation with NCSoft after my experiences with Aion (I preordered, had 2 accounts, started off with year subs, etc, and that was a huge waste of investment once server consolidation started and you end up losing names etc). Their previous track record has certainly informed my investment this time, and I don't need a community of apologists to tell me what decent business sense states clearly--they do what they do for maximum profit and minimum outlay of resources.

Unfortunately they don't care how long the cow languishes, or if they deal the death blow at launch. They'll keep it limping along and barely alive to keep the profits optimized compared to outlay of resources.

I just personally won't fund them if they put the content in lock boxes, and as much promise as the game has, I'll take my support and go put it elsewhere. When at work you have to deal with your boss and upper management ruining everything you do for the wrong ideals, when you're at play, you shouldn't have to put up with the same ...

You can still get it. but you don't know how much money you will throw into the sea, i.e. wasted. (Damn RNJesus)

Like @Akane said, you can get a guarantee costume for a year of premium. Sure why not. But this one is the other way around.

Lottery is a different concept, you can "donate" the money and wait for the result, which implies "I don't really care".

But you got a great point though,

Achievement driven costume is Great. It will attract more attention and game time for the players. even a casual one like me.

(you double quoted btw)

IF it's going down to Taiwan route:

Next boxes will contain blue hexa gems(attack 28,hp drain 170,etc).

The one after purple gems with attack bonus and leg weapon box(The box is tradable and can be AH).

I like rng boxes.I don't like to gamble myself but others do,and they sell ther reward in AH.This deals lower the price of this I and I belive most, would like to have. Example Taiwan: attack 5/100 lifedrain on stun/kd enemy was 1k gold normal, with boxes around 300-400 gold.Well Yeah I like RNG boxes.

There is no amount of $$ that can guarantee an outfit for you. None. This is not a pseudo-RNG with each Nth box containing the outfit, this is plain old RNJesus with his plain old tricks of no items after 1k boxes. This is a lottery: a scratch lottery. You don't need to wait for the result, you get your "try again, teehee" right away.

And thats exactly why these boxes are a bad and people don't want them.

But the guarantee outfit they are referring to is the one you get for buying the year sub from the store. It comes with a nice outfit.

I don't approve of these items in the SHOP. First of all don't put any kind of "RNG" boxes in the store.

Secondly, don't put items in there like Moonwater Transformation Stones and Soulstones......

You don't need these kind of things to make enough revenue on this game. Keep it simple, cosmetic and the way it was before those RNG boxes.

Would hate to see this turn into another money grabbing shop like so many other F2P MMO's out there. It only goes worse and worse.

Its so silly honestly... if you want to sell moonwater transformation stones and soulstones so badly, then just put them directly in the shop.

Everyone would then complain, and rightfully so because those are simply items you don't put in the game! It hurts the crafters who take the time to craft these things.

Since I've been sitting on the NCoin from the Master Pack, I went ahead and bought 22 boxes (11 x2. Don't worry, I don't instead to spend any more money on this game in the foreseeable future). While I didn't get the outfit, I did get about 25-30g worth of miscellaneous things. I ended up with over 70 Soulstones, 58 Unsealing Charms, 34 keys, a gem hammer, two Brilliant Moonwater keys, and some weapon and accessory xp gems. People looking for ways to convert NCoin to gold/tradeable items will probably be very pleased I reckon.
