how to dps blackwyrm, the world boss.

So far in Soha, almost everyone thinks fighting like a caveman is the way to go.....

 

NO. that's NOT how you defeat this boss.

 

This dragon is a faction boss, so you need to wear your faction outfit. It can only be killed by either one of the two factions, when one side gets boss's aggro, it's claimed.  if you see some red named person around, politely ask him/her to leave, or simply kill him/her....

 

You must do 1% of damage to this boss to get a reward. If you don't get a chest, you didn't do enough. The dragon's hp is currently 63m.

 

You do need a tank. If you pass by the dragon and see someone is attacking the dragon and not dying for 4 seconds, that's the tank.

 

So this is for you dps. 

 

This boss can be rooted by forcemaster's ice, summoner's Grasping Roots; and taunt, by cat's "Crouching Tiger", aka "Q-ing the cat".

 

But you NEED TO NEVER cc it. 

 

Because by cc-ing the dragon, you're messing up the dragon's attack patterns, which are messing up tank's skill CD, which is making the tank to have to retreat, which is making someone else the main target.

 

What happen if someone else becomes the main target? a few things:

 

1. dragon got rooted by ice or rasping roots, he will stop attacking, and reset his attack pattern, at this moment, tank will probably retreat from the dragon, then,

 

2. the dragon turns to a melee dps and spit out area poison circle everywhere.

 

3. if dragon's target is not in its melee range, it will pull inward everyone in front of it.

 

4. chaos until tank regain the threat. and how to let your tank to become main target again? you stop dps the dragon!

 

So.....

 

Before you join the fight with this world boss, check yourself for a few things:

 

1. If any of your skills that has word "threat increase" in the skill description, change skill;

 

2. if you're a summoner, and you're so used to press Q, just let your cat die, you'll see him after.

 

3. if you have a bracelet and it has "threat" attribute, take that thing off.

 

4. If you're a force master, do not use any skill with ice, like your RMB, your 3, and anything that will cc the dragon.

 

When to go in and what to do??

 

If everyone knows not to cc the boss, and the tank don't make mistakes, all the boss's skill you should be worrying about is the "Roar", a huge red area attack everyone 
within 20m? I think.

 

Anyways, that is the ONLY thing you have to worry about. 

 

It is the every 8th attack of the dragon. simple? of course, for tanks it's different when he's first got aggro, 

but as dps you don't need to know about this.

 

THAT'S THE ONLY BOSS SKILL YOU NEED TO WORRY.

 

So, how how to counter this AOE?

 

Any skill that has "Resists Damage and status effects" in skill description. I know everyone has Q,E,SS.

So when the 8th attack comes, just use any skill that resists damage. However, you will still get a weak status, just use F to get up and keep dps.

 

Now, if you're a destroyer, non of your resists skill will work on this, I've tried them all, 1, E, C, SS, non of them worked.... This is clearly a bug, 
I hope NCsoft will get this fixed soon. In the meantime, just spin away from the dragon after it's 5th attack.

 

of If you're a malee, stay at the dragon's tail to dps, range can stay wherever...

And in case the rotation has been messed up, there is no viable tank etc:

 

The boss' most dangerous ability, the roar, has about a 20 sec cooldown. His attack pattern might feel like RNG if there's no proper tanking, but he will always roar when it's off CD, which is 20 sec (as confirmed by my friend and me yesterday). Be mindful that the roar CAN be delayed if the boss gets CC'd, but it still adviseable to count down from 20 after each roar, and pay close attention when approaching 0 as you know he'll roar again soon.

Hey there, just made an account to comment here, I was experiencing the same thing. pretty frustrating how everyone else can easily iframe it but us destroyers.

 

I found that you can still iframe it with certain moves. If you spec leap (Blitz) to the right, you get resist on it, and this can be used to dodge roar every time it's up. The other skill I found is persistence (fury specced defensively) to resist 5 seconds.

 

However this cuts your dps to get brilliant box etc, so if you can practice to resist with leap and heal back up whenever you miss, I would recommend keeping fury and using it everytime it's off cooldown (heals a lot too!).

What kind of stats would anyone recommend for DPSing it?

 

Specifically as KFM I guess.
