When you stop to do research on the artist for this game, you'll find that it's Hyung-Tae Kim and he is known for his sexy female characters. I really like the art of the females and I hope they continue to bring out more sexy and revealing outfits (for Gon females anyways).

The term sexualization has become too generalized. Too many people now a days are quick to be offended by a woman's body showing skin.

Absolutely this.

OP, I can understand where you're coming from, but I guess I just don't really agree because I've always liked sexy costumes on females. I play females in rpgs because were I to play a male, I would be inclined to role play as myself. and why would I do that when I have to do that every day anyways?

And, of course, the secondary excuse is that I am a male, and my character is a female, you get the picture. However, in the case of BnS, I chose a Lyn. half because Blade Dancer is extremely fun, and half because the Lyn is just absolutely adorable (most of the time. some people's Lyns have been... eugh.)

Anyways, you should check some of the already established websites for bns costumes. you'd be surprised how many we don't have access to. Asd a matter of fact, Bloodshade Harbor (coming on Feb 10th) has a really nice one. Very royal, but also fairly revealing.

This is going to get real dumb real quick now so I'm just going to fire and forget here.   Males and Females both sexualise the other sex (or their own in the case of homosexuals), it's call

I always find it humorous when guys choose to play female characters and then complain about what we wear.  I'm a girl, I see nothing wrong with the selection of clothes they give us to wear.  If you

This is why you preview the costume before you buy.

all im gonna say and im not arguing or anything just pointing out that the outfits have slightly different designs dependent on race yes for females exclusively as well its a matter of what race you are i know for a fact gons are basically bathing suite heroins the yun are more classy then lets say luscious lol - jin and lyn seem to have the very much more conservative dress designs for outfits - not 100% but significantly more so then gons anyhow just pointing that out

I getcha, which is why I ended up choosing Lyn race. There's almost zero sexualized costumes for them. I get that not everyone wants to play Lyn tho, they're pretty specific + not all classes. I do hope we get less revealing costumes for the rest of the races soon :/ It's not like I hate it when anyone wears them ofc, they just make me personally uncomfortable. So here's to hoping !

the "back to school" outfit is kind of sexualized for all of the female races (I know that it looks sort of like a Catholic school outfit but the nuns and priests i know who have you suspended if you tried to dress like that)

the issue is that players want the over sexualized outfits for the female characters (I would love to see some more traditional kung fu/tai chi outfits maybe with dragon motifs on them but the lack of skin would probably make it an undersold item)

they are making outfit to sell and sex sells .. welcome to capitalism

I have to add my two cents and ask: WHY DOES MY FEMALE LOOK SO DAMN TRAMPY!!!!!!!!

Even more annoying: I find a costume I *KINDA* love. The color's are beautiful. But whole hell, the shear amount skin and boobage showing, I can't do it. And then my friend, who happens to be a different female race/class? Oh no, HIS VERSION COVERS HER COMPLETELY!!!!!!! We look the same, we're the same height and build, but for whatever reason, his does not show off her entire fricking body, and is TASTEFUL. PLEASE FRIGGIN' EXPLAIN THIS TO ME! Nobody told me when I chose my race (which was dictated by my class, I might add), that I was going to have to look like a tramp most of the time, while if I chose this one over here (who didn't have the class I wanted) I could look like a respectable young warrior (because let's be honest, no warrior in their right mind would fight in something they'd freaking fall out of, except of course in this game apparently).

I appreciate you wanted to give us different costume fits based on race, but come on. I've been told that NCSOFT USA opted for the 'uncensored' version of the game and costumes, can you please make it so we have access/choice of choosing censored versions? or we can wear a version meant for another race? I don't see men walking around indecent and exposed, why the *cricket*ing double standard here? I don't judge if people want their character to look that way, but I'll be damned it if I do :(

Oh and for those who don't know, in China release, the women are COVERED. There is a censored version of all these costumes to satisfy an entire countries censorship laws. So it's not like they don't exist and couldn't be imported into our version. Just saying. NCSOFT did what they had to there, they can do the same damn thing here.

For me, it's not that I think the game shouldn't have absurdly sexualized costumes. It's just that I'd like a LOT more options that actually don't look like the wearer should be hanging off a pole getting her g-string stuffed full of bills. If I want to see that, well...I live in Portland, the city with the highest concentration of strip clubs in the US. I can go for the real thing. The game can have all the fanservice it wants...just cater to the rest of us a bit more, m'kay?

Sexy Lyn costumes is like one step away from pedophilia..

...and GTA is one step away from mass murder, gotcha.

On topic: It's the art style of Hyung-Tae Kim - who is NOT a hentai artist, but one of the most influential and respected South Korean fantasy artists. The whole game represents his art, not only the female characters, so the costumes (male and female) naturally do so too...

*shrugs* I was highlighting the problem of media being able to get away with sexualization because of the audiences' impartiality towards it. The Gon see-through lace dress is what I'm referring to: it's not practical and you wouldn't wear that in public. I like to feel sexy sometimes but I can do that in modest clothing without bearing my backside or having a skirt so short I might as well just wear a belt. Same goes for the male characters - if his dong is in danger of waving around I don't want to see that in public, nor do I in a game.

And I speak as someone who has done nude modelling, who has friends who are professional adult models. I don't see a problem with bearing your body but there's a right time and place for it. When I play games I like to immerse myself and seeing a woman running around in a thong kind of destroys it for me. And a character like Soha who wears a bra with only enough material to cover her nipples... that's just silly.

To be fair there have been stupid people who are doing serious time for their GTA-inspired acts. You offended? It's not my fault you're into the stuff, person.

Yeah, but those people didn't do it because they've played GTA, the've done it because they must've some mental issues. Same with sexy Lyn, but i didn't even know there was such a thing in this game... Still not into sexy Lyn.

Yea, that pretty much like saying that the movie Oceans Eleven made people rob Vegas Casinos, but that topic has been done to death and got dismissed a long time ago.

I'm not offended at all, I'm just saying that - maybe - western audiences should consider something other then their own sensibilities once in a while. Only because the "progressive" west has embraced the questionable notion that "sexualized depictions of (of course only) women in the media" is somehow "harmful" all of a sudden, doesn't mean that the rest of the word will subscribe to that too...

Bullshit. Female characters are piece of meat in this game. The male design is cool, the women design is an impossible body with 120breasts and a nicky minaj ass.

I beg to differ and the stereotypes in general in this thread is fascinating but not surprising. Tangent but perhaps this (among other reasons) is why we will never truly advance.

Also to people thinking guys play females just to "look at ass and boobs", I actually make my female characters because it's fun (from a drawing point of view, curves are more fun to draw generally depending on the person) and because I feel like I have more versatility in looks and theme when creating a character.

yhuuNMl.jpg

I've told people about this outfit and people just dismiss it haha. I personally like it and think it's cute. Hell, I'll wear this over the skimpier outfits a good majority of the time.

In the end though, even if this game had 90% conservative clothes and women were very basic models, there will still be complaints about the other 10% of fashion in the game. People will see what they want and ignore everything else. You've chosen to see only the "pieces of meat" (regardless of context, I find this degrading considering a few females make their characters to look like themselves in RL), which, quite frankly, is a damn shame.

This is definitely true, all the people who complain about female sexualization and objectification of woman are always hypocrites. Nobody bats an  eye when the males get naked in Fairy Tail but the moment a female does it, those SJW and feminists loses their mind.

It's called prevalence and men are actually not objectified.  Objectification is treating someone as an object.  This ONLY happens to women.  Women looking at hot men are not objectifying them since they are still seen as people not just bodies.  Women are just treated as objects for men's pleasure.  Hence the abundance of female body parts used for marketing that don't even use a face.  Treating a woman as just a body and not a person creates a society where women are lesser.  This is because objects are always seen as lesser than people psychologically.  Women and women's bodies are used over and over again for men in a variety of ways.  It devalues women and it is wrong.

If you don't like looking girly, its probly bcause you aren't a girl.  Maybe you should play a male so you can wear clothes that you feel comfortable wearing.

Please stop with the bull "girls like 'girly' things" please.  There is a huge section of the female population that does not like traditionally girly things.  I am a non girly girl who would like the option to have a choice in how skimpy my character dresses while also playing the class I like.  Asking for more options in a variety of styles is not wrong and really should be a part of the game.

You could always use a mod if it really bothers you that much or reroll to a more conservative race. I personally created characters and pressed F3 to see what outfits would look like on them. Because of this, I wanted to go a more innocent, cute (but not Lyn) route so I choose Jin for my KFM. It just takes a bit of time to look around honestly (and yes, I did this when I was new as well).

And yet it is harmful as oodles of research has shown.  Viewing women as objects depersonalizes them and devalues them.  That is a fact that no one should deny.  This leads to viewing women as lesser which leads directly to the sexism we see in the world today.  The biggest hypocrites are those who look at the past and say how wrong it is that women were viewed as property and yet perpetuate the constant devaluing of women in current society.  Ever wonder why *cricket* is so prevalent?  That comes from the disconnect between a woman's body and her personhood.  This disconnect is created by all the media we have depicting woman's bodies as objects for the viewers pleasure.  It is a problem and it needs to be curbed.

I didn't read everyone's post here, but I am a woman.  I cannot fathom that any player who has seen this game prior to playing, or who played in the CBT thinks that there should be more coverage of characters or would even complain about it.  I like the scantily clad women honestly.. no I am not gay.  I just think that the female bodies are incredibly beautiful and nothing to be ashamed of and should be shown off.  I saw the videos and advertisements for this game, I played in the CBT and I knew that the game visually would be like this.

There are some outfits that cover more, but christ almighty why would you complain?  If you have issues with this type of artwork then why are you playing the game??  I like the jiggly boobs, its very realistic for women who don't wear bras.. and it gives a realistic feel to the bodies.

I really really hope that people who are complaining about this aren't trying to push for some modification of this game in this regard.

Yea yea, I heard all that in buckets over the last couple of years - believe whatever you will, I'm not here to challenge your slanted education, however - it still doesn't change the fact that judging art from foreign cultures with "western" glasses on, is everything from hypocritical to narrow minded and xenophobe... take your pick there.

So a few things I have an issue with in this.

1. You are suggesting that something ON A VIDEO GAME affects the real world view.. interesting... Do you also believe if I play need for speed I will race? OR if i play GTA I will go on a murder spree? Curious

2. You are playing an ASIAN VIDEOGAME, have you not seen Dead or alive? Tera? I dont need your kind ruining the video game industrial when Companys already are.

3. You say these make people Discredit women, So what about the Women WHO SAY "I can wear what i want doesnt mean Im asking for it?" Do I fall under a worse catergory because I play a game and w/ one revealing piece of clothing? but its okay for that girl on the street to say its okay and shes good, she loves her body? Sound like a double standard.

4. I will point this out again THIS IS A ASIAN MMO, a majority of its customer base is MALE they like females with those cloths as well as lolis.

5. I have yet to see a PERSON Who acutally plays one of these games go out and OBJECTIFY a women, but more over treat her with respect, What do you say to that?

Have fun continuing to perpetuate a world in which women are oppressed then.  I'm sure your female family and friends are so proud!

And the game is here in the US.  We have every right to complain about it seeing as NCSoft does have input into the game as the foreign publisher.  There have already been edits and they can do more.  Plus there is the fact that no matter if these issues generate in a different country they are now directly effecting this country so I have every right and duty to talk about it.
