Gamepad wont register?

I'm new to Blade and Soul and noticed that it supported game pads, and since i'm not accustomed to using a keyboard to play, I figured i'd just use my game pad. But no matter what I do, i can't seem to make BnS recognize my remote. It's a simple xbox360 wired Mad Catz controller. I can use it perfectly fine with steam, or any other game that supports Game pads, but it just doesn't seem to work with BnS. It can't be because it's a slight off brand of a 360 remote, could it? If I tried to use an XBone or PS4 remote, would they register correctly?
