as the title says, what are these and what advantages & disadvantages of joining one?

Well.

Advantages and Disavantages dont really exist when you have to choose one of them. Is simple in terms of outfit looking people like more one or other.

BTW i choose Cerulean cause is a blue outfit and also cause they defend some kind more "civilized" then Crimson, that bully people. xD

well, fact is both factions are the same, in term of reward, amount of quests, etc. The only thing that happening right now is crimson is smarter than cerulean in some servers ( they form party and do faction dailies together ). So i guess you will have to know how things go in ur server, u can't do those dailies solo.

Beside that, in my server (wich I dont remember the name XD) Ive seeen far more Crimson on thir PvP robes than Cerulean. 
Besides, power to one person corrupts that person, if the power is in everyone, everyone is the same.
