About the gathering profession?

Are gathering profession like in WoW, where you travel around the world to fish, find herbs and mines? I'm new to this game and I just got level 11 so I decided to get some gathering profession, but how do they work?

I decided to get herbalist and Fishing, but I have no idea how I'm suppose to fish without a fishing Rod or where to find herbs, can anyone help me to understand?

no and yes... gathering guilds do the work for you, you supply either coin or other in game supplies.  For example, if you want Tree sap, you have to wait for Tree Fellers to collect it for you.  You place an order, pay a few copper for it to start.  Pine sap takes 6hrs and Cedar sap 20hrs.  Where as quartz nodes and water wells, you gather on your own but you need a pick axe for quartz and container for water.  Those are crafted as well. The items gathered are later used as supplies for other crafts.  Gatherers like Trappers and Tree Fellers need you to find samples.  Once sample is found they can make it for you.  Samples are Pine, cedar or meat and bone from animal carcass.

 

You can join 2 gathering and 2 crafting guilds.
