What about a MEGA SERVER???

Don't remeber what game it was that introduced the idea of a Mega Server (per region).

(i think it was Wildstar)

But what if we had one of these? that would mean a mega server would have the capacity of all 10+ servers and we would all get to play together.

This to me seems like a good idea but if anyone has an actual reason as to why not then please share.

as for queue times well considering since the capacity is increased wouldn't this mean it would wipe those out?

-by a very positive/optimist player ^^

its too complicated and costly to do... they would need to make it like this since begining not after 4 years after original release in KR... also KR is very small country and they do not have theese problems... also mega server would probably mess up with latency and since BnS is very ping dependant not sure if its a good idea...

I am even agaisnt global Arena Que in West bcs we have so much more distance between each other than KR > ping increase... And the game is designed for 10 - 20 ping.... so i rly dont think we should have it..

Megaservers work pretty well in gw2.  Basically each map fills up to a soft cap, then another server generates a new map and the process repeats.  The softcap and hard cap difference theoretically allows for one person to invite a friend to a party, then those friends would be dumped on the same map up to the hard cap.

It doesn't sound promising, since You basically wouldn't be able to grind on low level quests coz of too many people on a server like that.

ah but what about one server but different channels like how other games do it like DFO

hmm you bring up good points

what about a proposal to join servers but keep them seprate at the same time like say the servers act to maintain character info and data

but when you want to run certain things with people from other servers you are able to without the lag and ping issue

also this way pvp would be based on all NA servers and not just the server you are on.

this seems like a awesome way to party with anyone from other servers I LIKE IT!!!

ESO uses megaserver system and it's awesome.

There are basically several servers "behind the scenes", but people don't actually see them and can't choose which one to join. The system distributes people across servers, across channels automatically.

Imagine that channels 1-10 are server 1, channels 11-20 are server 2 etc. If you can't join your friend on channel 1, he can join you on channel 20. This is only an example.

I don't know how hard it is to implement this, but it's already out there in practice and it works.

In theory it works pretty well.  However, when you have map wide events, it becomes a race to taxi people into your map with the LFG tool, then if you DC you can't get back in (Kinda like login servers now? =P).  Once things stabilize in B&S, it'll probably be fine, but IMO, especially because gw2 is part of the ncsoft family, the tech should have been put in place from the start.

This issue already exists in BnS during the PvP dragon fight, so it wouldn't make a difference.

have people login and just join a channel instead of a server where people are cut off from one another

this way people can just join whatever channel you are on or you join them and no worries if you are all on the same server.

well what about if you DC you can just get invited back into the party and change into like the party channel or something around those lines

and hmm weird if NCsoft had this system in another game wonder why they are doing it like this??
