Character Lobby Friends List?

I can only send a gift to someone on my Friend's list. Meaning if I want to buy a friend Premium, he has to be on my list.

 

Is there really no way to add someone to friends list without leaving the character lobby? Because I'd really like to send him this before he has to sit through any of these 3000+ nine hour queues. Because it's a little ridiculous. I've got the Ncoin to gift it. I just can't. Because he's not on my list.

 

Anyone have a suggestion?
