Things you need:

 

1. Login with a username and password.

2. Login to your email to get a code because new IP! 

3. download the game which has 2 download phases + one installation phase.

4. Open the game. Login again, hurrah! You're almost there.

5. Game takes for ever to open, because #optimized.

6. Oh, remember that pin you set back in 2016? NO? TOO BAD!

7. Try 5 times, fail. Then game closes. 

8. Repeat 4 through 7, and hate every second of this. Begin to remember why you stopped playing.

9. Look around to figure out what to do.

10. Discover it'll take up to 72 hours.

11. Tilt off the face of the earth.

12. Submit a ticket, be sure to express your anger and frustration.

13. Probably get banned because you're furious from the situation. You just wanted to play the game.

14. Uninstall, play any other game that has a lower barrier of entry. Like logging into your bank account, managing your money and ensuring you don't waste it on a company that clearly doesn't want you back.

Why is the system so outdated? There are 3 widely accepted uses for implementing 2 factor authentication.

1) Physical authenticator which creates a random pin

2) Software based authenticator which creates a random pin - Google has a free one for download on your phone.

3) Use of sms/text based cell phone or email authentication

 

The systems work for every company in the world, why does NCSoft cling to it's nearly 10 year old 1st gen custom implementation?

1) It's not user friendly.

2) It's not as secure as the above mentioned methods.

3) It's such an inconvenience that losing customers is an inevitability.

yeah im here bumping a chillion years old topic to just to say the same thing as everyone, this system SUCKS, have to wait 72 hours to reset a pincode I dont remember from 3 years ago, thanks NCsoft, ill just stick to runescape till someone reads my stupid ticket and agrees to reset the 6-digit pincode. Thanks again, great way to welcome back users, locking out and vanishing my will to play.
