Could someone explain to me how to get quartz :/

I'm totally baffled at this stage. I follow the map, I've got the pickaxes but when I get to where the node is supposed to be, there's nothing there. I've gone to about 20 of the spots marked on the map and I've yet to come across anything remotely like a mine-able node. I've been told I don't need to be in a gathering faction to get them so I'm really stumped here.

I'm not sure what the recycle time on them is, but essentially, someone just gathered it before you got there. The nodes are rare to begin with but then only one person gets it per <recycle period>. Keep trying and good luck!
