quest/cutscene freeze

I have noticed only during quests that have cut scenes after the text/dialogue  when you skip through text via the F key, and hit escape when the cutscene starts  the game black screens and you freeze unable to do anything, except end the game via task manager

ive made 6 characters so far and while speeding through things i've already heard/seen this has happened each time.
