Blade and Soul is being censored despite them previously saying otherwise.

I wish someone would ship you to one of those third world hell holes or just to an Asian country so you could experience first hand how horrible it is for women in those cultures.

Not to be juvenile about it, but you must be really unattractive if you truly have no bad experiences of men sexually harassing you.

Too far.

Too far.

Indeed. Let's just let the whole thread die off and accept that we're all going to have to agree to disagree.

Nothing is going to be changed back to the way it was, and new things are going to be changed to suit the writers' tastes. Those of us who dislike that have the tacit approval of NCWest to mod our clients as we choose.

I'm pretty sure we can drop/reword this one gag side-quest about a pervert "getting what he deserves" that has nothing to do with the main story and maybe a few other "distasteful" side-quests that again, have nothing to do with the main story, out of respect for the special snowflakes in the general audience who have suffered horrible trauma described in these leveling quests. After all, most of us are adults here. Right? We all (except, again, a few special snowflakes) have something that we don't want to talk about or remember from the past. Maybe it's fine for a tiny amount of censorship about a topic, that has nothing to do with the over-arcing story, to exist. This quest was, is and always will be a gag. It's filler. It's not important. We'll be fine without it. There are some things best left unsaid. Oh wait. Censorship. No! We can't have censorship, no matter who it offends! It doesn't matter what kind of trauma my fellow players may have suffered in the past or may be going through right now! This art needs to be preserved! Is this, https://youtu.be/p5TMmxlsLN8?t=9m50s, our audience? This is the vibe that some of you are portraying. I'm not the one suffering, my friend is, why am I feeling disgusted reading this crap? I know it's bound to happen though, it's the internet.

The problem with this is, and has been addressed in many places not just here, you can't filter out something for a handful of people that might get offended out of thousands. It's up to the individual as an adult to decide if they can handle online content, or if they're ready to. I've experienced real life trauma just like plenty of others have, but again, guess what this is a game and if someone gets 'triggered' so hard they can't play a game then they obviously need to work through their issues more with a therapist or etc. Not turn everything into their own personal daycare at the expense of everyone else.

I'll make clear I don't care about the quest content, it could've been about stealing bread from an NPC, watering flowers, doesn't matter, I don't want it to be changed.

It only became an issue when people try imposing real world ideologies onto a video game.

However since we have free reign to translate the game as it was meant to be ourselves and fix whatever is corrupted then it doesn't matter anymore, even though I'll still be vehemently opposed to any censorship based on feelings.

NCSoft has found it acceptable for us to mod our clients. They won't provide any support but they'll let it slide if it can get past GG and doesn't legitimately break the game for other players.

You seem to be completely overlooking the part where it says that it may result in a ban. Not supporting a modded client is both expected and acceptable, but "You can try and fix what we, through our ignorance, broke - but we may ban you for it. Who knows?" That is not acceptable.

No, I'd really prefer that we didn't. Don't take content away from me (and replace it with, forgive the term, "crap" no less) because someone else can't handle it. If they don't like it, it's their prerogative to avoid it.

Why is that "too far?" She is the one pooh-poohing the severity of poor treatment of women around the world. If it's not that bad then surely, she can handle it herself, right?

I'm honestly baffled as to how a self proclaimed female can be so completely ignorant and insensitive to the constant sexual harassment so many women, even in civilized countries, have to deal with on a daily basis. Just as ONE example, since around 13 years old I have not bought a single bottle of lotion without some man in the store, at the register, or in line behind/in front of me making a lewd remark about wanting to put it on me or watch me put it on myself or another woman. That is an example of unacceptable behavior and it runs rampant in America from men of all ages, and the mini-meltdown some people had over "censorship" of this quest and their inability to even remotely fathom why it was altered is essentially them holding up a big arrow pointing at them saying "Hey look, I'm just like the creepy man at the store. What that guy does is OK by me." I play games to relax and I don't want to be reminded of this when I play a fantasy game with kiddie-cat-girls and magic spells and dragon currents and humans gliding through the air on their own "chi."

This is not the real world, fantasy, fiction.

I'm honestly baffled as to how you can fail to differentiate between the contents of a game and real world. This has nothing to do with the real world. Nothing.

Yeah, get back to me when guys routinely get cat called on the streets, suffer a disproportionate amount of sexual harassment and *cricket*, regularly get stiffed for promotions and get paid less for the same amount of work, or, oh yeah, get ALL the sexualized outfits and poses in works that have absolutely no business being softcore porn.

So men find you attractive and feel the need to say it to you? A-holes!

You know that there are equal pay laws don't? If your employer is violating those laws, report them. You would likely get a generous settlement out of it.

Guys/gals, let this bickering stop already. This back and forth has gotten way too personal way too fast, and it really isn't serving any purpose at this point. Posters on both sides of the issue have spoken out, and now it's time to let the thread taper off.

It only became an issue when people try imposing real world ideologies onto a video game.

*headdesk*

Just... just for the record, there is literally no way to avoid imposing 'real world ideologies' onto a video game.

We are human beings. We are prone to thinking in anthrocentric ways. Our entire frame of reference is informed by our experiences, our memories, our perception of reality. We are inherently limited people.

It's incredibly silly to put video games on some sort of metaphysical pedestal, as though the real world need not apply. Hell, it's downright insane. EVERYTHING in a game like this is made with reference to the real-world in some way, form, or fashion. The game literally could not be made without doing so.

Not to mention that a defense this ridiculous could be used to justify literally anything. It's a pointless 'point' to make.

Maybe because i have been through far worse in my life then the assumed troubles of individuals such as yourself and find the level of crap you whine about utterly laughable. maybe go through some Real hardship in your life and then you will have some manner of appreciation for how laughable the crap your whining and complaining about is.

What's that they say about making assumptions?

Then are you ready to concede my point about it being wrong to glaze over a fictional tribe's traditions for the sake of adhering to a moral code they would have no business adhering to within the context of their world?

I was just about to leave this thread for good, but you keep contradicting yourself with every post you make.

There is a tasteful way to do a quest like that and then there is a gross, creepy, lecherous way to do it.

I'll tell you what - you talk to that NPC, and you let us know how she would have felt about the whole scenario. If she expresses even the slightest amount of discomfort over the quest line I'll drop the argument entirely on my end.

My guess, she'll start spouting some drivel about cultural awareness and her studies. Ask her how her day was, cultural awareness and studies. There's a dragon behind you, cultural awareness and studies. Why? Because she's an NPC.

You'd consider representing the characters actions as tasteful rather than gross, creepy and lecherous an improvement?

Interesting, because the very same writer who seems to fully agree with your line of thinking left the Dura questline exactly the way it was in the source material; to wit, there are two village men being held in cages inside Dura's Hideout, named "Village Hottie" and "Village Looker". Not only are these men being kept locked away in cages, as one would perhaps kennel dogs, but they are named in a clearly objectifying fashion, with the only identifying factor being their looks. That's quite offensive to me.

17 pages of this topic already?

How much has the point gone back and forth?

I didn't even know what the quest was about before this because it took so little time to do.

A few seconds if skipped, and you don't even need to do it, as it isn't part of the main story.

I guess I once again have a use for this image.

Good. I'm glad you're offended. Sexually objectifying two generic male NPCs is the absolute least this game can do to equal the playing field with their sexualized fashion (disclaimer: i'm not complaining about it) and ridiculous "jiggle physics."

So misandry is perfectly acceptable to you simply because it's some kind of karmic effect?

I guess us westerners are too childish to read perverted quest lines

If the gender was switched around 100% no one would be having this argument and the quest line would not have changed

Women are always crying about wanting to be treated equally and it's people like you that never let it happen because we have to be careful whenever we deal with women in a subjective manner.
